Your expectations for Alex Smith?

Let's say that the rumors of this franchise successfully trading cancer for AIDS is true. What will be your expectations for the 2013 Kansas City Chiefs?

I said that if you take his 2 years under a dipshit of a coach and improve them by 10% due to being trained by a very smart QB guy, he can be an 88 rated passer which is passable

What is inaccurate about that? Why is it beyond the realm of possibility that a 25 yr old kid with an idiot head coach has actually improved? And that with even marginal improvement, he's now an adequate NFL quarterback?

Not "so damn good". Not "more talented than one of the 5 most physically gifted QBs in the league", but ****ing competent - nothing more, nothing less.

Jesus - ****ing read and when you're done reading, address the statements actually raised and not the argument you keep wanting to have - that evidently some of us believe that Alex Smith is a 14 game winning, SB caliber QB that will raise the level of his teammates and ****ing cure cancer.

Y'know what - never****ingmind. I know why Dane lost his shit - none of you people bother paying attention to anything. You know what you know and by God, that's all there is to it. If someone dares suggest that someone is merely average, you lunatics lose your goddamn minds.

Go back to calling a former first overall pick that took his team to within a fumbled punt of the Super Bowl Matt Goddamn Cassel. None of you are paying attention to anything anyone else has to say anyway.
This is a classic case of projection. I said Smith wasn't good enough. "Adequate" isn't good enough. Someone who isn't good enough to trust multiple offseasons in a row isn't good enough. I don't know why that's so damned hard to understand.

For a breathy rant about reading comprehension, you sure seem to lack your own.

Likewise. And I've said literally a dozen ****ing times that this team still needs to draft Geno Smith and doing otherwise is foolish.

But Christ, can nobody look at anything on its face?

Alex Smith is still a competent starting QB even if Geno Smith dies tomorrow. Even if Geno Smith becomes the hybrid lovechild of John Elway, Dan Marino and Joe Montana.

But hey, let's make sure we cut down Alex Smith to make Geno Smith appear a more attractive option - because lord knows that's how you make your case that Geno Smith is a badass.

Geno Smith is a great QB prospect in his own right. Geno Smith should be our #1 overall pick.

Now is anyone capable of actually talking about Alex Smith for who he is rather than who he is not?

I also disagree with your assertion that Alex Smith is good enough to win with. He's not. Jim Harbaugh didn't believe it and the rest of the league didn't believe it, which is precisely why I made the post I did.

I quoted you, sweetheart.

You're the one that put out the straw man and started making dipshit arguments claiming that being benched for Colin Kaepernick means anything more than "you were benched for one of the 5 most talented QBs in the league".

Putting aside the talent concerns about Alex Smith for a second... the durability factor has to be a concern as well.

He has only started 16 games in two out of his 8 NFL seasons.

so Harbaugh must have sprinkled some of that magic pixie dust he used on Luck on Smith and Kaepernick as well...we need some of that god damn dust.

Alex Smith was 1 fumble away from the Super Bowl after beating Drew Brees in a shootout. He was the most efficient passer in the league before he got hurt.

Alex Smith is absolutely good enough to win 10-11 games with. He's proven it.

But that's all you're going to get from him. Which I've said from the start.

I tried to earlier and even prefaced everything by saying I was disappointed and really want Geno Smith at #1 and it turned into a mess.

I wouldn't even bother.

Now that is totally legit. He's working with a robo-arm, he's taken some blows to the head. Yeah, there are real concerns as to his durability.

If I were looking for a stop-gap QB solution (as Reid appears to be doing here), that would worry me a hell of a lot more than his raw ability.

I'm not going to freak out until they announce an extension and said extension calls for $30M guaranteed.

Then I'll freak out.

Until then, if this is just a stopgap for whatever rookie we draft at #1, #34 or somewhere in between that then I think it's not a bad move at all if it is for a 4th round pick.

He was benched for a guy who Harbaugh did not trust enough to give the job to after the last offseason. He was benched for a guy that Harbaugh wanted to sit for another few years (see Manning, Peyton).

Smith was passed over by Seattle, who played him 2x year. He was passed over by Miami. He was passed over by Cleveland, and the Jets.

Thirty two teams had a shot at an adequate starting QB and not one thought he was good enough. It isn't just a matter of Smith v. Kaepernick, it's the 49ers saying for multiple offseasons, "We don't trust this guy" and the entire NFL echoing that sentiment last year.

Alex has a very impressive playoff win on his resume...where he accounted for 4 TDs and the game winner.

so this is dumb
