Dolphins Defender tears ACL sacking QB softly
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...g-weight-on-qb
I missed this yesterday. Apparently the Dolphins lineman avoided crushing car by shifting his body weight to the side and ended up tearing his ACL. The NFL won't care because it's primarily concerned with QB safety, but interesting nonetheless. |

Now they don't want them to get hurt because it ruins a teams season, kills ratings if that team has a prime time game, annoys fantasy football players etc etc etc. This is all driven by ratings and money. |

Also what I think could happen is if defenders think it's always going to be a penalty I could see guys really just destroying a QB going well if I'm getting a flag I'll get my moneys worth.

but all it's going to take is some BS cheap shot, or even a good solid hit, to potentially injure him. Just imagine how irate we'd be if a Raven player, or other known cheap shot team, tags him and hurts him. they might be a 15 yd penalty, but we'd lose Pat. and I get it, ...it's football and there's risk. i would just try to minimize it as much as you can. I wouldn't eliminate it completely, but I was want them to be VERY selective on when and how they use him running the ball.

Or Defensive Co-ordinators have a mass rebellion and tell the players to go at as if it were the 80's

They aren't going to change this rule. They might even come down harder on it.
It sucks but they know that QBs drive ratings among the rank and file.
