****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

Apparently, others noticed Britt dominating as well.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mizzou Football senior offensive lineman Justin Britt (Lebanon, Mo.) and redshirt freshman Maty Mauk (Kenton, Ohio) have been named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Line Player of the Week and Freshman Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday.

Let's say the team that screwed around w/ Toledo & Arkansas State shows up.

Let's also consider that Mauk's only completing 48-49% of his passes. If he has a bad game relative to what he's done so far and you throw in some unlucky bounces or whatever and the possibility for a game w/ multiple turnovers and stalled drives and that'll keep a dog like UK hanging around. And if that happens you never know.

MU's a 2 td favorite. It would be a big upset. I don't expect it to happen.
I'm not even worried about the bounces. Mizzou is 8th best in the country at not turning the ball over. Kentucky is 116th at taking it away.

Pretty sure he'd still count against the 25 man limit, and if so it would suck to waste a spot for someone that won't make it.

I could see that. He's awfully talented, though.

We really need to start going for it on fourth and short inside the 30, its as much of a gamble with that useless kicker. Can't let Baggett cost us more games, just can't do it. Something I've been thinking about after the Tennessee game.

I know fans have taken shots at him, but Justin Britt is playing very, very well. From PowerMizzou:

Missouri left tackle Justin Britt was first known as the guy who filled in for Elvis Fisher in 2011. Last year, he was one of -- maybe the only -- known commodity on Missouri's offensive line before tearing his ACL against Florida.

This year, Britt is quietly going about his final season in Columbia. On Monday, however, the redshirt senior received the first accolades for what's been a consistent curtain-call. Britt was named SEC offensive lineman of the week.

According to the release by the SEC office, Britt graded out at 94-percent with five knockdown blocks, three pancake blocks and two cut blocks, while at the same time surrendering no quarterback sacks or pressures. This comes two weeks after his double pancake block of Florida linebacker Antonio Morrison generated plenty of buzz.

The surprise has been Britt's quick return from that knee injury. Around four months after injuring his knee, Britt was back on the practice field. What isn't surprising, however, is Britt's performance. In 2011, his first year as a starter, Missouri surrendered 18 sacks, the fourth lowest total under Gary Pinkel and the lowest total since the offensive line surrendered 16 in 2008.

(The lowest total came in 2001, when the offensive line gave up six sacks on 370 attempts.)

This year, Missouri has surrendered 17 sacks. While it ranks ninth in the SEC, it's a big improvement from the 2012 season in which Missouri gave up 29 sacks, 2.42 a game.

"We talked about him today in the coach's meeting," Pinkel said. "He is really standing out. Often offensive linemen can stand out, but he has been blowing people up to the sidelines. He is just a very, very talented player. You take his injury a year ago, and I think if he wouldn't have had that injury, all the problems of that offensive line that probably stalled his development a little bit because of him practicing at several different areas ... I think that was tough on him, as far as his development at one spot, becoming a great player.

"He's playing at a whole different level since he's been here. He's very, very talented athlete. I call him a flat-belly offensive linemen. We won't go to the other area, side of that spectrum, but certainly he's doing well and I'm very proud of him." - See more at: http://missouri.rivals.com/content.a....IEcUwHuR.dpuf

Britt is a stud. Hopefully he can earn a paycheck in the league. That beatdown he put on the piece of shit from Florida following his cheap shot was legendary.

He's only a year removed from ACL surgery. Dude is just going to get better. When Britt was recruited, he was a skinny ** guy. BUT, he was a state-champion wrestler. His quickness and knowledge of leverage were never in question.

Britt's great. Obviously I want everyone that comes to MU to do well but there is something special when the home grown kids succeed.

Guh, sounds like Markel wants to commit, but doesn't currently have a spot. Wingo also wants to commit, but wants to continue to take visits (which the staff won't allow). I won't be thrilled if we lose either one, honestly.

Missing out on Wingo would bug me; kid's an incredible athlete with good size for a CB. Smith? Eh, doesn't seem amazing to me and we're not struggling to turn over RBs. I'd like to have him, but I think we can do as well or better pretty much any given year.

He's a bigger back and he's from STL (as is Wingo). I'd like to open that pipeline as wide as possible.

I think you go for anywhere outside the 20 yard line.

Both of the kicks Baggett has missed have been with the LOS inside the 20.

I think the bigger issue is not the distance but the placement. He clearly struggles kicking from the left hash. When they're in field goal range, that's something they should look at/think about. Especially if they're running the football.
