Once the guys got older, I think it was hard to keep the show going. They were high school guys who aged into college and then into adults, and the show was completely different. At some point before it ended, I stopped watching it too. I don't remember what the catalyst was, though, and it may have even been before they jumped the shark, because I never saw that episode.

I just remembered, though. They introduced Mork from Ork in that show. That was quite the bizarre twist on a 1950s family sitcom.
IIRC correctly the show runner's daughter saw alien in something and asked him to put one on Happy Days. So we got a Mork vs. Fonzie episode. Robin Williams was funny enough to turn that into his own TV show. I think it was Chuck. Maybe played by the guy that was also the pretty boy neighbor from Married With Children and some character on Love Boat?

I know Evel Kneival followed that episode by jumping an actual tank of sharks.

So as I understood it many years ago, "Jumping the Shark" was initially used to describe when a show had peaked, and was at it's best, and everything following that was trending towards decline. (I would have submitted "Who Shot Mister Burns" as this moment for the Simpsons using this definition.)

I think the shark ate CP or at least took a very significant bite out of it. Definitely not the same the last couple years.

The Chiefs have jumped the shark.

They're the same franchise they've been for the past 20 years.

Until they change, this place won't.
