Hmm. We'll look into an IR, then. I suspect it wouldn't be hard to have an IR for the whole season, but a mid-season IR might be more of a hassle. It'll be on our list to discuss, but again, don't expect it this season.

Help me understand the need for IR.

22 starters
3 punter, kicker, returner
2 nickel and dime backs
3 extra wideouts
2 extra TE
4 extra DL
2 extra HB

that's 38 players that could possibly see the field, leaving 15 slots for injuries and development players.

We want the talent pool to see the field not sitting on the shelf. At least inSandbix you have the foresight to see where injuries will occur. If a real NFL team has injuries to 3 CB, players who were street free agents at the beginning of the season will definitely see the field. It isn't the end of the world to play a free agent for a few games.

Let's say I have 4 RBs -- two share the workload and a 3rd gets a few touches, while the 4th is a developmental guy. My top two RBs go down for the season in week one, so I know I need replacements. My developmental guy isn't ready yet, and the RB3 can't handle the full load. So if I replace and don't want to cut anyone, I'm carrying 6RBs.

I'm just throwing out a suggestion, didn't mean to come across as a complaint. I like the system fine as is, and if you think an IR is a bad idea, I'll defer to you two.

I have actually been thinking that an IR would be nice as well. The initial premise of the entire roster number 53 used in the Sandbox is the based off of the NFL. NFL teams also get an IR, so I think we should as well.

The primary reason would be as addressed above, to be able to compensate for injuries and remain competitive without having to cut somebody.

The way I would initially structure it would be for teams just prior to final cut down date to place any number of people on IR for the season (assuming they missed a predetermined amount of time that year due to injury - say 8 or so games - so this couldn't double as a taxi squad) prior to the season. This would have that player be inactive for all 16 games and the playoffs, but allow the team a roster exemption to pick up somebody to fill that spot. Teams would still have to spend cap space on the replacements and the contract years still tick off of players on IR, so it's far from a freebie. This would allow for a team to be able to cope with an injury or mass injuries to one position without compromising the integrity of their primary players or force them into a spot where they cannot be competitive because they can't fill starting spots.

I've lost 8 of those 38 to IR in real life.
I've got seven draft picks.
To replace those 8 and keep my draft picks, I have to give up on ALL my other players(38+8+7=53).

If you're saying I need to decide who's worth keeping and letting street FA do their job, and who I want to cut bait on, I'll say I want to keep them all. That's why I signed them. With no IR, I'll play the players I have (probably out of position to secure a higher draft pick), and come back next season with more money, better players and a high draft pick.

In fairness, what team wouldn't be destroyed in the real NFL by having 8 starters go on the IR? And when a player goes on the IR in real life, the Chiefs don't get to dip into an offseason FA pool - they have to go sign a street FA, which is the caliber of player you'd be getting by not filling the role with a real player.

Sandbox is kinda built to have some degree of difficulty in it and to maintain some level of realism. If the Chiefs lost 8 of their starters to the IR, they'd be a 2 win football team. Well...you may be in that boat.

I agree with CD - with as much advanced notice as we get and with Sandbox trying to stay as true to life as possible, I don't think there should be an IR. The street FA function is a reasonable approximation.

The more I think about it, I'm inclined to agree. We have a 53-man roster, and we don't have to have a long snapper and special teams guys, so we can build our team a little differently. And with advance knowledge of injuries, we can work to fill the worst holes with perfect knowledge as we go.

It wouldn't bother me a lot to do an IR, but one thing I like about our current setup is that it's more realistic than fantasy football since we can't constantly upgrade our rosters during the season. It's more a matter of trying to keep a working roster as guys go down with injuries, which is more like the real world.

Exactly.

I'm carrying 7 friggen CBs exclusively because I know in week 13 I'm down 3 of them and won't be able to field a competent secondary otherwise. I have 20 d-lineman and linebackers because of injuries to Ingram, Hill and Freeney and suspensions to Irvin.

You adapt and build depth.

Though I still say that allowing for one guy to back up multiple positions would help greatly in this regard.

DENVER SIGNS ROBERT MATHIS
By Alexdsmit H. Sucks

Sack King promises to "plunder" Anchorage, "ravage" Alex D. Smith's spouse.

In the biggest move of the Sandbox offseason so far, reigning Lunar North champion Denver inked pass rusher Robert Mathis to a 6-year, $115 million contract.

"I love the Broncos, and I love money too, so this was a great move," said Mathis. "They already have a great defense, and I feel I can really put them over the top."

Last year the Broncos won 15 games and ranked #1 in both offense and defense, but fell to Lunar North rival Anchorage in the second round of the playoffs. In that game, Rabbits quarterback Alex D. Smith torched Denver's top-ranked unit for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rabbits built a 21-3 halftime lead, and never looked back on their way to an eventual Sandbox Bowl appearance, though they lost to the Tacos because Smith just isn't that good.

Mathis promised to change all of that.

"Man, that was some bullshit," he said. "Denver's the best team in the league and have been for two years now. The Rabbits, they just got lucky. Smith isn't even that good. We gonna plunder that team this year. Me, Julius Peppers and Charles Johnson...we gonna take it to 'em."

The Broncos ranked third in the league in sacks last year with 52. Adding Mathis could make an already-feared defense one of the best ever, and the 32-year old was not shy about predicting another elite season.

"If I don't get 20 sacks I'll be disappointed," he said. "They can't double all three of us. My goal is 30 sacks...I'm at least as good as Greg Hardy."

Mathis also had a message for Smith's family.

"Man, after we beat the crap out of Anchorage I tell you what," he said. "I seen Alex's wife. She's real pretty. Baby, I show you what a real man is after we knock the stuffing out of yours! I'll ravage you! You'll be begging for it!"

Mathis then hopped into a monster truck driven by Tom Brady and bearing the vanity plates "2HOT4ALEX." The truck did a wheelie around the parking lot as the pair drove off, flipping the bird to no one in particular.

Pittsburgh Tacos quarterback Peyton Manning did not respond to phone calls for this article, though soft whimpering was heard on the line.

I'm looking for a backup RB and possibly a starting strong safety in league 1. Let me know if any of you have players you want to move at those positions.

Here's who I can move. All are starters.

G Garrett Reynolds
MLB D'Qwell Jackson
DT Barry Cofield
OLB Parys Haralson
RT Jeremy Trueblood
TE Brandon Myers
TE Delanie Walker

C'mon now, Clay - you know you're getting a little worried that Alex D. Smith is putting up regular season numbers on par with his 2011/2012 figures.

Reports of the the death of Alex D. Smith were very likely premature...
