Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

But it goes back to that I believe a truly good personnel person could spot the next guy down the line and still make a good pick.
All it would have taken is a 1st and a 3rd.

FFS the Cowboys traded a 1st and a 2nd for Maurice Claiborne.

Claiborne is a good player but he's not Deion Sanders. It's bullshit that Pioli didn't trade up for a QB.

Thats the part that pisses me off.

Dallas went all the way from 17 to 6 with only a second rounder and that means we probably could have easily moved from 11 to 6 with a third and taken Tannehill.

Right now, we would all be getting excited if we had and nobody would be calling for Piolis head.

That was the case with Sanchez, Tannehill, and others. You said we should stop being stupid about QBs who aren't "legitimate"

Which one is it, man?
I've never been a fan of the "take a shot at a QB just because he's a QB" school of thought. It's sort of like "just play whoever because it can't be worse than Cassel" thing. No way. I want somebody good. Not a shot in the dark by an autistic monkey flinging runny poop. And beyond that, if I don't like a guy it's because...I don't like a guy. That's all there is to it. It's not because I'm afraid of drafting the position or because I want the "perfect" prospect or because I'm a 'true fan' philosophically locked into taking linemen. Take Sanchez for example. I was strongly against drafting him. Why? Basically because I never liked him. Although there were some ancillary reasons, not the least of which was 'inexperienced junior QB coming out early'. But the guy just didn't do it for me. Ditto for Tannehill. Just never felt to me like he was "it". I think at the end of the day he's just another guy. And maybe it turns out that I'm wrong, but either way, aren't I allowed to have an opinion? Or are we supposed to just blithely be okay with whoever they take, as long as it's a qb?

(PS: I do like Geno Smith.)

I'm not putting words in your mouth. You said Chiefs Planet has a history of being reeruned and overhyping QBs who don't do anything in the pros, but THOSE ARE THE ONLY OPTIONS WE HAVE. That's what I'm trying to say. We either overdraft Mark Sanchez or we die.

We've been waiting for the right time for the right player for 30 ****ing years, dude. Drafting a QB who might not be the greatest is all we got. We have to take that risk. There is no other option.

And it's time to start that this year. If we can move shit around to get Geno Smith, it HAS to happen.

Id also like to add that there werent more than 20 of us that wanted them to trade up to take Tannehill.

I think I ran a poll on it and the results were similar to my Stanzi thread from a couple years ago.

We have had no options, dude.

Let's say the worst happens and we draft 15-20. Smith, Barkley, and Wilson get drafted 1, 2, 3. We have a shot to go get a Ryan Tannehill type of guy just a few picks ahead. That's what it's come down to. Those picks have to be moved to go get that guy.

What's our other option? Draft that illustrious ILB that won't change shit on our defense? Burn a first rounder replacing Brandon Carr?

This shit has to end. We have to start drafting those guys you don't like. One of them is going to work out. It happens all the time. A Joe Flacco or somebody like that. The dice MUST be rolled.

There is almost NEVER a perfect QB prospect...you just have to try and keep trying until you find one.

Just like all of the good teams have done.

There's always been a QB who shoots up draft boards following the season and gets landed in the 1st round. Sometimes these guys are great. Sometimes they're not. Lately a lot of them have panned out alright (Flacco, Ponder, Tannehill).

This year look out for Tajh Boyd declaring early. He's kind of a streaky player, and at the end of last year he sort of seized up for some unknown reason following Clemson's 8-0 start.

He's looking VERY good this year. He's become far more consistent in the pocket and is making better decisions. If he declares early, he'll be that last QB people are looking for to round out the first round-calibre guys.

I imagine he'll be a player that Planeteers spit on. They'll say he shits his pants too often, and that he's not the answer. We shouldn't waste a 1st rounder on one of those QBs who gets drafted just because he's a QB.

Wrong. If Tajh Boyd declares and we miss out on Geno Smith or Matt Barkley, Tajh Boyd is the guy we need to go after. We need to TRADE UP to get him. And if he fails, then we try again a couple years from now. Until we fix this ****ing QB problem once and for goddamned all.

I got no problem with drafting that guy at 15 or 20. What I got a problem with is drafting that guy at 5 or at 8. Which is where someone like Tannehill or Sanchez comes into the discussion. When those guys miss, and they will miss much more often than not, it's one thing to lose a single first rounder. When you're giving up future picks in the blind hope that a guy that doesn't look like a player might somehow miraculously hit.

Of course we're having this discussion in a thread about Geno Smith, who should go top-5, if not outright #1. So what you're really asking is whether we should trade picks to move up for...who? Let's say Barclay, Smith and Wilson are off the board by 8 (conservatively speaking...). We're at 15 and talking about moving up for...? Bray maybe? Actually that's remarkably like the Sanchez discussion, maybe, a guy who probably needs another year in college. So do you give up your draft for him? EJ Manuel? Fall in love with Zac Dysert?

You know what's going to happen, though. We'll draft Manti Te'o, thrilling all the people who think Belcher is some kind of hole in the defense.

I agree with the logic of not taking one just to take one. That being said, at some point we need to take a chance. I am not saying 1% chance, but we can't wait for Luck to come along again. Are we really gonna pass on a guy with a few issues to stick with what, hoping for Stanzi to do well? It's the time to take a shot. Go big or go home. We haven't been a team for 10 years. We have just been filler for other teams schedule. This includes 2010.

Stopped reading right there.

That makes no sense if you're in the Chiefs' position.
