Car Guys: transmission problem?
I've got a 01 Ranger with 128k. Auto Trans.

In the past couple of weeks I have noticed that when slowing down that the trucks has a pretty bad 'jerk' when it down-shifts from 2nd to 1st. Otherwise it shifts fine... I am taking it in on Tuesday to have it checked out, but worry it could be a tran$mi$$ion issue.

Any ideas car gurus?

Yes sir. I was able to drive it for another 18 months and my tranny just went to shit again. I took it back and he said you need a new transmission. I used my income tax and bought one through him for $1,200. That was over 2 years ago and my car is running good. I should have replaced my transmission instead of spending $500 on solenoid replacements.

My money was tight so repairing the solenoids for $500 gave me enough time to collect my income tax check. Luckly it went out right when I got my check. If you have money I'd replace the whole transmission. You can replace your solenoids, but if it's not computerized correctly they can go out again. Took about 18 months for my solenoids to go out again because my transmissions was just done.

Yeah I have a good mechanic that I have gone to for years. Doesn't charge me for the small stuff....

As I said, I have a small crack at the top of my radiator and he said I could spend $xxx replacing the radiator or I could save some cash and just top my coolant off every other week...

He could have left out the latter and made some coin...

The truck is worth ~$5,000. It's a nice little truck otherwise...do I dump the money into it or try to sell it with a bum transmission?
