Does anyone else like hitting up garage/estate sales?

Last Saturday I was on my way to Sam's Club, going down 95th, and saw a sign for a garage sale. Stopped on a whim and ended up spending three hours probably hitting up 6-7 different houses. Signs everywhere, just a little west of 95th and State Line.

Lots of rich people selling shit for cheap. Picked up a nice 8-piece china set for two bucks. The estate sale was nuts, the whole house was for sale. Got some clothes, a drinking glass and a couple gifts.

Where are the best places around KC to find garage sales? I was honestly impressed just with the amount right off 95th...I'm definitely going again soon.

The only time I go is if I am looking for something specific and I can see it from the road.

I have had a few. Make clothes cheap.

Then get the people that want to bargain on .25

I tell them, its a quarter now or 3.00 at the thrift store when I donate it.

I hate when people try to negotiate at a yard sale (preface that by saying we priced stuff cheap at ours as were trying to get rid of it and make a few bucks in the process. We weren't trying to recoup the money we paid for it new like you see as some sales).

I had a snow blower at mine (tough sale in July) for $25. A guy pulled up, jumped out, ran over to it and looked at it. Then he started to bad mouth it and then offered $10.

When I told him no way, he said "have fun having that all summer" and left. I hung on to it until the winter and then traded it for a riding lawn mower.

No way, every sale I've gone too smelt like old people and every house looked like it was 1977.

I hate them. But I need to start going to some because I want to find old woodworking planes to restore.

I hate to break this to you but if I were a sword fighter, I'd probably be in quaint suburbs "antiquing" instead of attending auctions.

It should surprise people that you don't choke on your own stupidity if not for being so obvious that you lost your gag reflex so many years ago.

if you let me know what specifically you're looking for I'll watch at auctions. I see quite a few things like that at auctions. If the Amish aren't there they go cheap.

Do you mean they all looked like they were 1,977 years old? Like it was built in 1977? Like you stepped back in time to 1977?

I guess I have bad luck. Every "whole house" estate sale I've been to looked more like "we can't be bothered moving Grandpa's old shit out so you should pay to do it for us".

Mostly old Stanley planes. #4, #5, #7, #8. Ideally I want pre world war II but the ways to differentiate aren't really simple to discern. Anything with cracks or overly large pitting in the steel is no good.

So, I'm guessing that your estate sale will be a big one. Can you ballpark the date so people can plan ahead?
