[Fire Me Boy!]

Greetings from the night side!

Anyone around tonight (gonna be here for a while)?

I'll be here till 7 a.m. Last week the topic of discussion was in the Alexander thread... what's the topic for tonight? More movies, music, Chiefs?

I saw the screening of Closer, and I must say... strange. It's a very difficult movie to talk about. The cast is good, and Natalie Portman proves she can act after the dribble she had to use in the Star Wars prequels. Jude Law is good, as always.

This week coming, I've got press screenings for Ocean's 12 and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera.

I enjoyed Ocean's 11, but I'm hesitant to believe Ocean's 11 will be anything different. It'll be more Hollywood churned crap targeting the same audience with the same tired story... just with a new cast member. It's a formula movie, but it will probably be enjoyable.

Phantom... I'm a little torn over. Director Joel Schumacher single-handedly destroyed the Batman franchise. But usually, I like his work -- as long as it's not Batman. While not great movies, Phonebooth, Tigerland, Falling Down, Flatliners, and The Lost Boys were enjoyable. Stylistically, Schumacher is first rate. His production design ranks with the best of them.

Now, I'm a HUGE fan of the stage play. I've seen it six times in venues from KC, to St. Louis, to Springfield, to Louisville, KY. I know it backwards and forwards. I'm not the usual guy that says "Michael Crawford is the only Phantom." While I like Crawford a lot, I've seen and heard others who would give him a run for his money. I'm just glad it's not Antonio Banderas as was the original rumor when production on this film began.

I'm a little nervous about this release, really. I like the play so much I really don't want to see Schumacher f__k it up. But one thing it has going for it -- Webber signed off on it. That helps. We'll see.

I've written a couple, only to discover that I'm not a writer. I produce and direct for my production company, Censored Entertainment (no, it's not porn, I just have thing for titles that are contradictory -- in college, I produced a show called Variety, Limited). I've got a partner in Censored Entertainment who's the writer, then of course we look at submissions. We just optioned a script from a guy in St. Louis. I should get it in the mail in the very near future. Check my profile and go to the website if you want to send us something. We'll take a look at it. Right now, we're booked to produce Five Days and 50 Conversations About Nothing next summer (the script we just optioned) , the probably hit This Spirit Apparatus thereafter (which is written by my partner).

Is that the one that recently came out by Shane Carruthers or something like that? Haven't seen it, but heard decent things about it? Who's your friend?

I plan to check out The Rules of the Game. Haven't had the time over the past week. I work three jobs. No time ever. The only movies I get to see are the ones the paper pays me to see.

You joke, Cosmic, but I've got the Grease soundtrack on CD, too. I remember when I was kid and we thought we were getting away with something just listening to "Greased Lightning."
