"New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith will not attend Mark Sanchez's annual "Jets West" camp, a league source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini.

Instead of attending Sanchez's chemistry-building camp for the Jets' offensive players, Smith is working out in Florida, according to the New York Daily News. Multiple media reports said Smith was not in attendance at Jets West on Thursday, the first official practice in Southern California.

We haven't talked about it, but from my understanding it's something that's done annually and all the guys go out there and it's been a great experience," Smith previously had said."

The Jets coaches are toying with the idea of turning rookie quarterback Geno Smith into what Tebow was supposed to be last season -- a change-of-pace quarterback, Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports.

Smith would have a package of plays, mainly read-option runs that could exploit his speed.

Cimini writed that Smith has a lot to prove after a lackluster performance in the OTAs and minicamp.

If Geno Smith wanted to prove that he's a leader of men and the future leader of the Jets, he'd be in SoCal right now.

Instead, just like every other major decision he's faced since graduating, he's failed.

WTF are you spouting? So you're saying the Chiefs never get their bonding time before every NFL season because they don't have a Jets West or whatever type thing going on? So you're saying every football team that doesn't have an involuntary TC led by a teammate doesn't get that "valuable" time? You can't seriously sit here and expect me to believe this drivel.

Furthermore, I don't think you're in any position to state that not attending wouldn't hinder his progress.
