Rely on those nostalgia affected memories then. The real question isn't whether LeBron will pass Bird at this point as a player (he arguably already has, he's well on track to be one of the top 2 or 3 ever to play the game), it's whether Durant will too.

Ok good, that way there's no bias involved.

Bird is a top 5 player or so, but if LeBron continues as the best player on the planet for a few more years, there won't be an argument.

Hey, now tell me something like "A Rod is better than Lou Gehrig, because W.A.R.".

Whoa. Durant has a metric shit-ton of work to do to be used in the same sentence as Bird.

Maybe if he can get a coach that can get his teammates to run something resembling offense...........

ARod is an all-time great just like Gehrig was. Hard to say whether one was better than the other, they played in such vastly different eras of baseball.

Durant is well on track to be one of the greats himself. He's just generally badly overshadowed by how good LeBron is (although not this year according to the writers).

And yes, Durant would be far better off in a terrible offensive system that didn't rely on him and Westbrook to just take ridiculous ISO shots all game.

There will always be bias involved when you look at players from differing eras. It's impossible for it to be otherwise.

That's silly. James is playing in an era where his best competition is old and declining, where the rules have all but eliminated the center position, and where most big men are as soft as Charmin. Bird/Magic/Barkley & Co. were all playing top quality ball at the same time, until injuries and other things interfered, and when quality, tough big men were all over the place.

I happened to see the posts on Bird and Brady, so I responded. When one of you starts claiming that LeBron is more of a force than Chamberlain, I promise to laugh at that, too, if I see it.

I'm not sure why you bother denying your Boston fanship, though. At least I admit my biases.

So basketball was better back then, therefore any comparable player in today's game takes a back seat? Got it, seems reasonable. Let me ask this..... If James got to play with one of those tough quality big men.... how might that help him?

Oh, and every era has old and declining, peak, and up and coming. No different today.

It's not worth it. The guy's a Celtics fan who is nostalgic about Bird and old-time basketball, there will be no getting through to him on this point.
