Obamacare architect: It's not a typo - only states with exchanges get tax credits

Subsidies only flow through state-based exchanges

In his remarks, Gruber urged state governments to set up their own health insurance exchanges. A member of the audience asked: “It’s my understanding that if states don’t provide [exchanges], then the federal government will provide them for the states.”

Gruber responded: “What’s important to remember politically about [Obamacare] is if you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits—but your citizens still pay the taxes that support this bill. So you’re essentially saying [to] your citizens you’re going to pay all the taxes to help all the other states in the country. I hope that that’s a blatant enough political reality that states will get their act together and realize there are billions of dollars at stake here in setting up these exchanges. But, you know, once again the politics can get ugly around this.” (Emphasis added.)

No, idiot (emphasis added by me)...the government has been trying to "fix" it...since TRUMAN; google it yourself. At every step, we were promised by the "industry" that THEY would step-up and "fix" it. It is THE INDUSTRY and their repeated and continuing failures to address the situation in any serious or practical way, that have brought us to this point.

You go ahead and keep your head in the sand, though...and then blame the government for a failure of the industry and market to fix what was entirely fixable had they chosen to "fix" it. Instead, they chose, exorbitant profits, salaries, and other "compensation" (yes, even the free lunches, tax write-offs, and 'bagel' spreads, BL)...and chose to burden working class and middle class folks with the expenses a group that the government SHOULD have been subsidizing all along (the industry calls it "cost-shifting")....and avoided this less-than-perfect-solution that we are faced with.

Wake-up and see that you have been duped...and smell the COFFEE....coffee is good...

You mean Truman making group health insurance tax deductible which tied health insurance to employment? You know because the government was freezing wages and businesses complained that they couldn't keep employees.

If you think that government hasn't been mucking around in the health insurance and health care industry for a while up until Obamacare then you are not even in the same reality as most people.

You think that maybe every time the government tries to fix it, they just make it worse like practically everything government does.

You seem fine with that; kudos, I suppose for "manning up." But it is more than a bit hypocritical and ironic coming from someone who claims to support fiscally "conservative" policies...but has never, ever (to my knowledge) every protested the immense federal subsidy we receive from farm "subsides (welfare)" and ethanol "subsidies (welfare),"reservation-federal land-'Lu-Lu' payments and other "subsidies (WELFARE)" that our fine, fine state receives.

I swear...there is so, so much this state has to offer. It is a GREAT place to raise a family; good economy, good LOW-pay job opportunities, and great outdoors environment for hunting and fishing. I'm proud to call SD my home. However, buttheads who bury their heads in the sand (or other dark places,) and ignore the realities of modern America...while they simultaneously hord/beg for federal government payments and subsidies....well, you folks deeply, deeply embarrass me. Redneck closet-racist douchebag rancher-farmer-"small" business types that OWN this state are MORE than a tad bit embarrassing. Just sayin'....

At least to educated and real Americans....
Kotter mocking people that get tax breaks while his paycheck relies on tax dollars always kills me.

So move you ****ing moron. I'll help you out by loading up the truck. Just name the time. I'll take vacation from my middle class job that pays me for my services.

You keep moulding our youth and forget about all of the rest of us. Send a few home to self employed mom and dad with some of your internet garbage trash talk. Take a few kicks at farmers and ranchers and the guy who runs the feed business and the fella who owns the livestock sale barn. And don't forget the local garage and the car dealer.

You know, property owners. Tax payer types.

Or just do it on a sports politics board and look like a one issue fool and not risk it at the school. You must hate yourself and the awful decisions you have made that keep you down.

You mean, me mocking people that receive tax breaks for NO REAL WORK--setting "aside" land, turning food into fuel while increasing food and feeed costs for many Americans....all the while my meager salary compensates me at the rate of $1.18 per hour/per student that I work (yeah, I've done the math--what a deal, right?)

Go to bed, you drunkin' redneck....I LOVE SD for reasons that count above and beyond the reasons that douchebags like you don't even understand. Family, quality of life, lifestyles we prefer...over the parochial politics of self-absorbed and navel-gazing rednecks who conceal their real racism behind the platitudes of self-reliance and personal-responsibility.

It's okay, HERE...you are definitely not alone. So, rest assured you are really, really cool...here, at least. You are right...more in SD are like you; however, fortunately, I live in Minnehaha County...and we see you and your cohorts as you are--simpleton country bumpkin redneck racist folks, who pretend to have progressed to the 21st century...but realistically dwell in the 18th or 19th centrury in their dreams....

Mother of God...you are EXACTLY the Hannity-Beck-Rush disciple who is trying to drive real Americans into the ground. God, do you even realize it...

That IS a rhetorical question, heh....

Just when you thought that you'd seen the bottom of the barrel, as dumb and trashy as they get in Dave, KC, Cosmo, Long, etc. here comes Kotter to set the bar even lower. Nicely done!

Whatever. I'm not huffing whatever paint you're huffing. Single payer will never happen in America. There is no plausible scenario that will make that a reality.
