Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

No matter what scope you choose, go with a 50mm bell. You'll thank me later.

Thought this would be a great place to ask.

Dad is a fairly big bird hunter and he loves shooting clay pigeons. He's shot the same remington pump action 20 gauge for as long as I can remember.

So, I finally decided that for Christmas to upgrade him. The wife and I bought him a new Remington 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge.

What are your thoughts on this shotgun? I've always been a Remington guy, it's a family thing.

While a 50mm will gather more light, it might not be best for getting a better sight picture, for me the extra weight and bulk was not worth it. The extra FOV is nice but again come with limitations. My experience comparing them in hunting use only amounted to about an extra 10-15 minutes of visible light on both ends of daylight hours. Leupold found a nice compromise with their vx-7(??) Line that featured a contoured lens to go around the barrel and allow lower mounting, not worth the price in my opinion though.

Also when scope shopping, try to take it outside if possible, store lighting really makes it difficult to compare glass quality.

I posted this in another thread, but I'd be willing to bet that here very soon that the Gov will implement a bill that will require you to have a permit to buy ammo. that permit will probably cost a reeruned ammount and need to be renewed way too often.

hooray for revenue!

True, I've been lucky so far and have avoided any of the panic periods, I try to keep 2+yrs worth, however an outright ban would affect everyone in time.

I think that they will take away lead for enviromental issues (they have already started), and "fragmenting" ammo.

My redfield revolution 3-9x50 is amazing and is worth any negligible weight or bulk for me, especially for the money. Its tough to beat for me.

Just picked up 1000 rounds of 45 auto, couple of extended mags, as well as 2000 round of 556. Should be good for awhile.

This is where I see it going as well, combined with the ATF determining that solid copper bullets are defined as armor piercing (their determination used against Barnes) it doesn't look very good.

Gunsmith-like people - tell me if this is a good idea, an awful idea or somewhere in between.

The PT101 has an aluminum frame. Taurus anodizes theirs to help with durability. However, as is often the case with anodized products, it creates a rainbow 'sheen' when the light hits it.

My thought is to hit the frame with some aluminum polish to take the anodization off it and then hit it with a satin duracoat so the frame matches the slide.

Thoughts? Any reason why this would make the gun dangerous/unreliable?
