OOPS....another Climate Change Lie Correction

The science is settled? But it's the math that's hard?

The scientists behind a headline-grabbing global warming study did something that seems all too rare these days — they admitted to making mistakes and thanked the researcher, a global warming skeptic, who pointed them out.

“When we were confronted with his insight it became immediately clear there was an issue there,” study co-author Ralph Keeling told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Tuesday.

Their study, published in October, used a new method of measuring ocean heat uptake and found the oceans had absorbed 60 more heat than previously thought. Many news outlets relayed the findings, but independent scientist Nic Lewis quickly found problems with the study.

Keeling, a scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, owned up to the mistake and thanked Lewis for finding it. Keeling and his co-authors submitted a correction to the journal Nature.

“We’re grateful to have it be pointed out quickly so that we could correct it quickly,” Keeling said.

In a statement posted online Friday, Keeling said “the combined effect of these two corrections to have a small impact on our calculations of overall heat uptake.” However, Keeling said the errors mean there are “larger margins of error” than they initially thought.

So, while Keeling said they still found there’s more warming than previously thought, there’s too much uncertainty to support their paper’s central conclusion that oceans absorbed 60 percent more heat than current estimates show.

“Our error margins are too big now to really weigh in on the precise amount of warming that’s going on in the ocean,” Keeling told The Union Tribune. “We really muffed the error margins.”

Keeling and his co-authors used the study to debut a new way of estimating ocean heat uptake by measuring the volume of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the atmosphere. Scientists are still intrigued by this method, but all the kinks need to be worked out.

“So far as I can see, their method vastly underestimates the uncertainty,” Lewis told The Washington Post in an interview Tuesday, “as well as biasing up significantly, nearly 30 percent, the central estimate.”

Lewis pointed out the errors in Keeling’s study in a blog post published Nov. 6 on climate scientist Judith Curry’s website. Lewis wrote that “[j]ust a few hours of analysis and calculations … was sufficient to uncover apparently serious (but surely inadvertent) errors in the underlying calculations.”

Lewis is an ardent critic of climate scientists’ over-reliance on climate models, which he says predict too much warming. Lewis and Curry published a study earlier in 2018 that found climate models overestimated global warming by as much as 45 percent.

Lewis’s corrections were quickly confirmed by University of Colorado professor Roger Pielke Jr. Pielke called Keeling’s acceptance and willingness to correct the mistakes a “lesson in graciousness.”

“Unfortunately, we made mistakes here,” Keeling told WaPo. “I think the main lesson is that you work as fast as you can to fix mistakes when you find them.”

I don't know if its doom and gloom. But weather has been impacted. We've had two really bad weather years in a row. And insurance actuaries consistently believe this trend is the new normal, not an exception. At the very least it's already going to lead to more property losses from natural disasters.

Indeed. Solar costs more than fossil fuel heating or cooling - the "savings" is never realized by the customer. The wind turbines (and their blight on the land) is absolutely minimal and never realized by the co-op.

However - and to their "discredit" - Hippies and their children - the "hipsters" are ABSOLUTELY convinced that the science is 100% settled - it is not.

Startups especially for very capital intensive, immature technologies will undoubtedly struggle. This is nowhere near the tipping point yet. But they haven't had the head start other energy sources have had. What's encouraging is that innovation is occurring at a furious rate, a lot of the innovation barriers have been removed, and there's actual organic motivation to make these things work. For now they have major challenges, but that should change. When? Who's knows. Likely take a while. But there's a reason oil companies are starting to look in the rearview mirror. I dont think it has as much to do with wanting energy to be cleaner, it's that they want it to be smarter.

Over 20 cities could break temperature records as dangerous, bitter cold invades the Midwest

https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/25/weath...wxc/index.html

(CNN)If you think the cold across the Midwest and Northeast is bad now, just wait.

Over the next week there will be two cold waves impacting the eastern half of the country. The first one will bring temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees below normal across the Midwest. The second will be the one for the record books.

Over 20 cities have the potential to break record lows Wednesday and Thursday morning. And, more than 35 cities have the potential to have their coldest high temperature on record Wednesday and Thursday.

This isn't just about records, though. The second cold blast will be very widespread, bringing below freezing temperatures all the way down to Florida. In fact, over 68 million people -- nearly a quarter of the US population -- will have a temperature fall below zero next week. Cities such as Minneapolis and Chicago are not forecast to have a high temperature above freezing for at least the next 10 days.

"Record breaking and potentially historic outbreak of cold still appears to be in the offing for the middle of next week," according to the Chicago National Weather Service. "Greater than normal degree of forecast uncertainty in temperatures, due in large part to models showing all-time records being broken and in some cases shattered."

The forecast models the weather service is referring to have consistently shown numerous days dropping to at least minus-20 degrees or colder next week. For reference, Chicago has had only 15 days ever drop to minus-20 or colder in 150 years of record keeping.

There is also the potential that Chicago will see multiple days that fail to reach 0 for the high temperature -- something that has happened only twice in the past 20 years, and 22 times in the past 100 years.

Add wind to the extremely cold temperatures and much of the upper Midwest will see wind chill values of minus-35 to minus-55 during the middle of next week. These conditions make it dangerous to be outdoors for any period of time as frostbite can occur in just five to 10 minutes.

CNN's Dakin Andone contributed to this report.

Oh , its doom and gloom alrighty. But that how Climate Change disciples work. We must sell the impending doom.

Australia's Heat Wave Is Taking A Toll On People, Animals, Infrastructure And Land

It's summertime in Australia, and the country is in the throes of a record-breaking heat wave that has brought suffering to humans, animals and land.

Temperatures in the south have soared past 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

Australia's State Emergency Service declared the heat wave a threat to public safety, as an increasing number of Australians have called ambulances and gone to hospitals in Adelaide for heat-associated illnesses.
