[QUOTE=DaneMcCloud;9816996]I don't give a shit about your radio station director's job. If you're going to tell me that illegal downloading hasn't killed the record business along thousands of jobs while changing the economics of signing and developing bands, you're smoking crack.

And BTW, go **** yourself.[/

I haven't said that for one. Two, iTunes is the biggest reason records don't sell, because kids these days buy songs, not entire albums. And corporations, and the suits running them, have also contributed to killing jobs in the music industry. Just like corporate suits have in almost every other business in the universe.

And by the sounds of your anger, you seem a Bit pent up. Maybe you're the one who needs to go **** themselves.

Good God. Seriously? I mean, really. I don't think I've read something so clueless about the music business in this forum for a decade.

It's very clear that you don't understand the economics of the music business. That's fine, as you don't actually work for a major record label or Big Four music publisher. But to pretend as if you know exactly why sales have declined and to blame it on iTunes is ludicrous.

Yeah but honestly, look at most of the bands and performers that are making a lot of money and getting a lot of exposure. It isn't an indicator of anything to me. And that's nothin against Avenged Sevenfold. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I understand that. Like I said, I like a few bands that aren't "big". The problem s if they aren't able to make money, they don't last. But, there is truth to what you say.

You're missing the point, entirely.

I'm not talking radio: I'm talking record labels and music publishers.

Today, the market is dominated by Disney kids, American Idol and teen music. That accounts for 75% of the new music sales today. The rest are bands that are barely getting paid, barely getting developed and are usually dropped after their first record.

Record labels earn their money today on catalog, remasters (which is a scam) and the occasional superstar act (which are far and few between). Publishers earn their money on catalog and Film & TV, which is even tougher these days due to the production libraries and indie artists.

The fact of the matter is that there are very few acts earning money from record sales because music has lost all its value. It's disposable. This stems from the illegal downloading craze of the mid-90's and extends to today. It's very rare that an artist sells a 500,000 copies and even rarer when an artist sells 1 million copies. Hell, the latest Van Halen record barely sold 600k and that was before returns!

So don't tell me that the record business is doing fine, is the same as usual, etc. and so on, because it's not.

Not even close.

Dude, iTunes is part of it, but not all of it. But the fact that people don't buy whole records anymore is part of the reason records sales are down. Illegal downloads is another granted. And a few more factors. I've said that. I haven't said its all ITunes. You just like to get into fights on this forum don't you? You seem to do it a lot.

Record labels definitely have it tougher today for various factors, including the ones above. Corporations have a hand in it as well. It's a hodgepodge of reasons and it starts at the top, the suits who don't give a **** about the artist, or the art.

Music itself is still good is what I'm saying. It still exists.

Dude, the guy that invented iTunes lives up the street from me. It's a rigged game. Seriously. But it has nothing to do with the overall health of the music business.

I've been a member of this forum for nearly 13 years. The core members were together at the Star, so I go back 16, 17 years with some of these people. But the bottom line is that I can't stand it when people make false statements.

Your whole gig here today was to pimp AS and when people didn't agree, you pulled the "Hey, I'm the Director" card, you know, to show you're a badass. Then when challenged on the nonsense you've spewed about the business, I chimed in.

And quite frankly, you're wrong. I didn't expect you to be right because it's not your job but you don't have to be an ass about it.

Please name these "suits". I can name them. I'm friends with many of them. And in working with so many of these people over the course of the past 20 years, I'd hardly call them "suits".

Music is subjective. What you love, I might hate. What I love, you might hate. Everyone has room for an opinion because all music, regardless of genre, speaks to people differently.

I know plenty of people like you (mostly band managers) that think about music as you do. There's nothing wrong with it and that's what makes you (and them) successful.

But there is room for dissenting opinions.

No, if someone doesn't like the song, they don't like the song. I pulled the card when I was questioned on how would I even know a good song, by you if I think.

I've been here since 1999 under a different account a resigned up in 2002. So I've been around the CP block. I don't know why that's so important, but you keep using it as something against me.

Really? Your friends with the CEOs of Clear Channel and CBS? Your friends with CEOs of major banks and all the big dogs running corporations that own media companies and record companies? Or do you just know high up bosses?
