Ok, I've About Had it With Netflix. It's starting to Suck.

Is it just me, or is Netflix starting to suck more and more balls with every passing day?! They keep taking these shows that my wife and I like off and it seems as if their mission is to get to the point where every movie, documentary and TV series is a Netflix original. And maybe it's just me, but I haven't watched any Netflix original series shows that I've been very thrilled about. First one I watched was Orange is the New Black. That show is alright, but if you were an "Oz" fanatic in the prior to watching it, it is difficult to be that thrilled about OITNB...and Prison Break. I can't even get through this latest season. The entire thing seems to be based on a riot that I lost interest in after an episode or two. And the couple-few Netflix series I've tried since, just hasn't kept my attention. This may because I have a bad attitude coming in about Netflix and haven't been able to shake it. To be fair, I probably haven't been giving the shows much of a chance because I am pissed at Netflix. My wife is really in to Stranger Things right now...she told me I would like it...I am having a difficult time forcing myself to watch it...and she is pretty good about knowing which shows I would like...so I really think it is an anti-Netflix bias.

So Netflix initially ruffled my feathers in a major way when they didn't renew the 30 for30's. I love 30 for 30's...I can watch them over and over. That started it all for me. Now I don't know where to watch them...and I refuse to buy cable/satellite in my town.

Then suddenly, a couple of my favorites; Malcolm In the Middle and The Wonder Years were taken off. That really, really pissed me off. 3 out of the 5 shows I watch more than anything on Netflix (The Office and Always Sunny being the other 2), all taken off...just like nothing. Those were all go-to shows to watch when I wanted to relax on a stressful day...always put me at ease. And my wife is upset about 30 Rock being taken down.

Thank goodness Hulu is stepping up and claiming some of these. Huge fan of Hulu right now.

Eventually, so may only be a subscribe to Hulu and HBO Now. I've about had it with Netflix.

Is that what Netflix is doing? Gravitating towards being exclusively Netflix originals? Because it sure seems like it. I knew it was too good to be true to have access to those great shows for well, more years.

The straw that will break the camel's back for me will be when they take The Office down. I have every season's DVD and everything, but I don't feel like whipping out one of my DVD players just because Netflix sucks. My wife and I watch The Office every day/night when we go to sleep. We have for the past 6-7 years... it's like our bedtime lullaby. At least with Always Sunny, I think Hulu will still have it.

I don't know where to watch The Wonder Years now. What, is it finally on DVD or something?!!

Ugh. Anyone else frustrated with this?

I think South Park was on to something a couple weeks ago when they jabbed at Netflix, teasing them for seemingly accepting any Netflix Orignal Series that is pitched to them.

I've tried both. Nearly all the choices I clicked on for Amazon Prime Video I had to pay a fee for. Got tired of it. Ended the trial.

I sure would love a way to get old movies somewhere.

There is amazing content on Netflix.

If you rate stuff you like, its recommendations to you get better.

The thing that drives me nuts about the main three is that they make finding anything you want to watch a pain in the ass. I have to use a third party app just to see what movies are available on each of them. This is primarily because Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon think they no you better than you do and they recommend the shit they think you want to see.

When I search for stuff to watch on Netflix online using my computer it's easy. But the search on the smart TV is too freaking time consuming or complicated if you want to type in a search.

I don't care for the new thumbs-up v thumbs-down rating. I prefer the old 5 star rating. The latter tells me more. So if it's 3 starts I know it's so-so but not too bad. Up or down—very disappointing.

the star rating was based on what they thought you'd think of it, not actual ratings from other users.

I still dig the documentary side, and the stand up comedy side of things on Netflix, but in terms of finding a 'newer' movie that might have been in an actual movie theater in the last two years.....forget it.
i think Netflix is moving away from the big movies as a platform to grow and keep customers. They are expensive and most people have saw them anyway.

The original content is improving. It's still filled with no name actors talking about feelings. I did like Mindhunter, Stranger Things, Glow, Love, House of Cards and Ozark so I'll keep pAying them.

I like the comedy stand ups for the most part. Most are not my cup of tea but then I discover new comedians I've never heard of but are really funny.

yeah I never understood how it became socially acceptable to steal HBO or download movies for free. How that got to be "not stealing" I'll never know.

Netflix came along and provided all those films in a single, convenient place. I was happy to pay for that content.

It is now splintering. To be able to have legal access to the same, large, content, you will have to subscribe too many, monthly services.

In that environment. I have a lot less sympathy for content owners whining about illegal streaming. Almost nobody is going to subscribe to a dozen different providers. So of course they will look for other options.
People have been complaining about paying for useless channels with their cable subscriptions forever and saying they wish they could select programming al a carte. But now that it's starting to happen, people will complain about having to pay multiple subscriptions. Not directed at you, necessarily. Your post just made me think of it.

It's a good point. Conceivably it could be a positive development. The only challenge is that you have to shut off or pay for all of a provider's content, so you still have to pay for stuff you don't want.

Maybe the ultimate endgame is to pay for individual shows. I wouldn't mind that, as I would probably watch less television as a result.

Of course, Comcast is charging me a large monthly fee and then also trying to charge me for individual shows. That will not stand.

One way, or another, they will get their money. So you want to drop cable? Sure ok. You still have to pay for your ISP at a level that supports your usage and purchase each streaming service you want. After its all said and done, the consumer will always lose.

All that said, Hulu streaming has surpassed Netflix streaming for what Netflix initially provided. Eventually ABC, NBC and Fox will all start charging for their streaming services as well then Hulu will have to do the same thing Netflix is doing.

With all of that, you still have the live sports problem. Outside WatchESPN and Fox sports, which still requires a cable contract to view, there is still no legal streaming options for sports.
Hey bro...check Playstation Vue/Fubo...live sports.

This is what I wanted, except that the price is higher as the channels build their infrastructures and streaming customer base. $10 is ridiculous for CBS and $15 is too high for HBO for example. I expect prices to drop as customers sign up for services like HBO. I expect services like CBS to drop or fail.

I pay for HBO, not CBS. If Syfy began streaming I'd probably pay for it. No more kids at home so I will not pay for Disney in the future. Would consider AMC and a few others as well. My choice. Exactly what I wanted.

Unfortunately it's still in its infancy and what few options are available are overpriced. Give it a few more years.

Look. I didn't say that I had no sympathy for them and I realize that piracy is an issue. But content owners need to be realistic. When you had to buy a $20 album in order to own a single song, I'm not going to get too excited when a lot of people share music. When you can buy a single song for $0.99 or listen to the song for free with an occasional add, or stream unlimited music without adds for $10~$15, then I think it is really lame for someone to pirate music.

Say all Disney owned content goes behind its own paywall. I maybe average one Disney film a year. If I can buy it one-off for $2.99 from, say, Amazon, great. I will do that. If it requires its own monthly subscription, I'm not going to shed tears about it being pirated.
