Camping

Heat, bugs, boredom, uncomfortable sleeping conditions, and bears. Why do white people like it so much?

The main objective is to see all the cool wildness not to just sleep in a tent. I like to canoe so i end up camping so i can float the rivers etc but i wouldn't camp just for the sake of it.
I like to hunt, fish, and like to take hikes every now and then. Just don't want to stay there all night in a tent. I'm with you there.

Well, there's some merit to that. I'd say maybe 50% of the reason I like to camp is to get to some of the areas I want to visit. But still, campfires and sleeping out in the middle of nowhere is definitely a big part of the appeal.

Sitting around a fire, and waking up in the outdoors reconnects us with our caveman DNA.

Camping reconnects you to mother nature, helps put you in your place in the universe by knocking your ego down a couple notches by showing why we have it so easy and helps you appreciate what you have if you do it right.

There should be a game show where you can kidnap somebody who lived in Manhattan their whole life and drag them up in the Catskill Mountains for a week. Guarantee they'll look at that comfee little pooper next to the shower and refrigerator full of food in a new light when they get back.

Everyone should be put in a place where their not top of the food chain about twice a year.

I get not working but sleeping in a nice cozy bed at 72 degree temperature or riding in a golf cart and hitting a white ball into greenery does as much as I need for peace and tranquility.
To each their own, but IMO the camping experience isn't just an overnight stay at the KOA with the heat and bugs and checking out the couple rocking the pop up a few stalls over. It's about the isolation, serenity, fresh air, cool temps, little if any bugs if you're high enough, etc. etc. I'm really biased towards Bwana's way of camping as that's what I did growing up in Wyoming and the Black Hills in South Dakota. If you haven't camped there, do it. If you do it, then do it for more than a couple days. Go back to civilation and let me know if your perspective hasn't changed just a bit regarding peace and tranquility. :-)

I like camping but the last time I went it ended up being like 96 degrees and it was crappy. I can take cold weather camping but not the heat.

I love to camp, but I fall into that category of people that you say really aren't "camping".

I haven't camped in a tent in many, many years. Got a pop-up camper in 1999, three years later bought a 27' travel trailer. Last year we upgraded that to a 32' 5th wheel with all the amenities. It's more of a hotel on wheels.

We've been looking into that as well, but with a toy hauler so I can bring the Goldwing along too. There's so many options out there to choose from, but as I get older, it gets more and more appealing.

I love camping. I would have to say the only thing I hate is the lack of running water, though. Or peeing in nature. You should try drinking by the campfire, getting tipsy, having to pop a squat in order to pee, and try to not pee all over yourself...lol. Women have skills.

I've had it for four years and absolutely love it. I ride it to work every day I can and the wife and I take trips on the weekend with it. I put a lot of road miles on it and would have nothing else. It's a big bike but very smooth.

Oh, I put a tent in it for camping last year on the way to the Tail of the Dragon in NC. There, we're back on topic again.

There's a Benny Hill skit in there somewhere.
