Wild Animals You Have Seen in North America

We'll keep this dialed into North America since there's a broad scope beyond our shores.

The rules are that you must have seen the animal in the wild while you were not in a closed vehicle or a house. The sighting must have taken place in North America.

No sightings in zoos, no sightings in nature parks where the animal is more or less a display animal.

National park sightings count as long as you meet the other requirements above.

Poll coming. Keep your eyes peeled and be alert.

The nearest tree was probably 40 feet away, so I imagine he was moving pretty good when he nailed the window.

Looking at the poll, you're a pretty lucky person if you've ever seen a wolverine, a lynx, or Chiefsplanet member Otter.

The following is my best non-hunting deer story. I don't know where in Jersey you live, but I was driving down Inman Ave in Rahway about 10 years ago when I saw a deer off the side of the road about 4 or 5 car lengths ahead. (For everyone else, this is a mostly commercial road with a speed limit around 35 mph.) As the car in front of me is approaching the spot where the deer is standing, it suddenly takes off to cross the road. God as my witness, the damned thing leapt at the car in front of me, landed on the trunk (it was a mid-sized sedan), and spun through the air like an Olympic figure skater. It must have gotten a full 2 rotations before landing on its feet and continuing to stumble across the road. Its trajectory took it out of my direct line so I was in no danger of hitting it; but holy hell it was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen. I wished I had a dashcam because it would have been amazing to show people.

Yes. Grew up in rural Montana. Lived on a river. Lots of summer ranch work. Went to Glacier Park and hiked every summer. That crosses many off the list.

Saw several alligators during a trip to NASA. Each time a shuttle landed there, NASA had crews that patrolled the runways to pull the off. They would come out and "sun" on the runways. We had press passes which gave us a lot of freedom to wander around. We were told not to get out of our vehicles and approach anything in or near the water. When we saw one about 50 feet from the entrance to where they rehab the orbiter, we began to be a little more observant.

Not every poster who visits this site lives in Kansas City. Some people who visit Chiefs Planet have lived in a wide variety of climates across the US. For instance I have lived in Virginia, Texas, Colorado, and California. I have also vacationed in the surrounding states.
