Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Well technically it's the LE901 which natively chambers 7.62x51. But it has an adapter that lets it take any milspec 5.56 upper. Apparently now there is an adapter that supports AK magazines and an unknown upper.

Ahhhhhh.

Is this the Colt that was in Guns n' Ammo a few months ago with a new upper?

I was kind of interested in a 7.62x39 AR upper, but evidently they are not very reliable.

Besides, why not just buy an AK?

This is the new Colt wundergun I'm actually trying to get one..but with the craziness who knows. Actually in that picture is supposed to be TX gov Perry as he lobby's colt to open a plant in TX where they can both build AND sell their products!

Honestly that's mostly my take, if it's an AK round why not use an AK? Really there's only one reason to put a 5.45x39 or a 7.62x39 in an AR platform and that's if you intend to reload.

Part of the reason I never worry about steel cases for AKs, the gun is going to beat the tar out of brass anyway. ARs don't beat up the brass as much so if you want to reload it's not a bad choice.

Absolutely.

Whoever buys the .308/.223 convertible Colt is just buying the "exclusive" tag. For what they want for it (both uppers and the lower) you can buy complete, separate rifles that are more accurate for cheaper.

But, there are people out there that have way too much money and don't know any better that will buy it.

Just ordered a Mosin Nagant!

I also got a crate of 7.62x54 a couple days ago.

Gotta start stocking up on cheap milsurp rifles and ammunition.

Really informative article on Brass vs Steel cased ammo. It's kind of long with tons of links, so you'll have to click on it.

Wow, that's very informative. So in the end, its the dual-metal jacketing that does more damage than the steel casings and their coatings. Still though, with zero malfunctions in 10K rounds and minimal barrel wear, I'll stick with brass.

the value is really in the copper jacket of the Federal ammo. It's just softer and won't destroy the barrel as fast. If a manufacturer could do a copper jacket bullet and a steel case then perhaps that could be a nice, slightly cheaper, ammo?

Also, the value of the brass case is the ability to reload. I don't think you can reload metal cases.

I prefer brass as well, but it's not like I'll avoid shooting steel cased bi-metal rounds. Unless you're a competition shooter there are very few of us that shoot enough rounds to do that much damage. If my son has to put some parts on it later after it's passed down to him we'll consider it pay back!

You are correct, you cannot reload steel cases only brass. A brass bullet and steel case would be a good compromise as well.

I got the okay to get an ak 74 from my wife (after I spent $1500 remolding our extra bedroom in the shed into a craft room.

I went after this one, but didn't meet the reserve. I bid $700.

I love the folding stock on it. I wish they'd come down in price like the ar's have.

they will, it'll be an oversupply as the people who had to have them at any price already has them and the resale market is gone.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...-ar-15-market/

Lets hope the rest of the market(and most importantly ammo) stabilizes soon!

Those guys are insane, and anyone that pays those prices for an AK are even more insane.

I've been waiting for two months. I don't get why the ar's are close to normal but the ak's won't budge. Better supply of ar's?

I'm seeing $1k+ ak's on there with actual bids on it. I'd like an arsenal but 1k for one seems rediculous.
