Succumbing to pressure from delusional fans who nonetheless spend metric shit tons of money, NASCAR announced today that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be awarded two spots in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Doppelganger Earnhardt, the 14th but probably not last entry into the circus, will coincidentally but invisibly run side-by-side with Ordinary Earnhardt, and will accumulate equal point totals with all of them being added to Ordinary's total haul.

Brian France coughed, sighed and said before fleeing, "I have the authority to do that. We will do that."

This latest was especially asinine IMHO.
Explain to me how what Front Row Motor Sports and Penske did is any different than when one guy lets another lead a lap.
Hell, they docked Truex points and took him out, why not dock Logano then?

Even as a big Bowyer fan, I don't have an issue with hitting Bowyer, and if he had been docked 10 points IN THE CHASE, I would find that reasonable (and I do suspect that some non-HMS driver will put him into the wall in the event that he's in chase contention 7 or 8 races from now)

I agree with you, I'm always happy when good things happen to him, but I'm not that kind of blind homer homer either - he got lucky that NASCAR wanted his star-power in the chase and they found an injustice (or set of them) that allowed them to make it happen without too much scrutiny. He did plenty to put himself in the position to get ****ed by one point. So I think I was just as happy saying he was out for no other reason than he didn't win a race. Not that it's listed as a requirement or anything, but without a win, I'm not sure anybody should be in "the chase." Hell, I'm not even sure I'm a fan of the chase!

So before I explain how banning "teams" and making every lap count (again), I'll just say that A) Jeff don't think will be a contender in the chase for very long, and B) that if he wants to be in the chase next year he better decide to race a lot more and get back to being one of the better pure racers (like he used to be). If not, choose family (never a better choice), and retire.

He got lucky when he shouldn't have needed to be (from many angles).

Yup. If NASCAR entertains any thoughts of busting stuff like that, they had better pack a lunch. And hire detectives, decryption experts, and maybe some psychics.

Yeah, I agree...the Bowyer spin put a bunch of things into play, however, and being the last race Im frankly surprised it hasnt happened before this year. Logano had no chance until he got the wave around. He and Gilliland were the only two cars two laps down.

I really dont know how Nascar fixes this problem...it's going to ruin the final race because I can see another team having a guy locked in 'help' his teammates on the bubble in the future.

That race was a great race until the final 10 laps.

They need to just get rid of the "Chase". Whoever has the most points at the end of the season is the champion. They tried to fix something that wasn't broke and it is turning NASCAR into a joke.

Well, I ain't met you yet, so I'll have to withhold judgement. I can't say you're one for wanting to see someone hit the wall. I used to love whoever put the #3 into the wall and in reality he was a really great guy (at least every time I ever talked to him)
