Talked my neighbor out of voting for Bush today...

...I was suprised at how easy it was.

He's a small business owner, and he said he was voting for Bush because he though Bush might help small businesses. I noted that I can understand that position for sure, and commented on how it's just a shame that the government expects small business to operate within their budgets, yet this administration refuses to operate within any budgetary guidelines whatsoever. He shook his head in disgust and commented that he too was disappointed in how fiscally irresponsible a Republican congress and a Republican Executive have been. I mentioned to him that at least with that Democrat, Clinton, we knew the government was running on a balanced budget.

He asked who I am voting for. I told him, "well, that depends... But I can tell you who I'm voting against, and that's Bush. I'm not going to reward this administration with another term if this kind of fiscal irresponsibility is the thanks that America gets. They make us look in one direction by giving us a tax cut, and then in the other direction they spend our money like woman in a shoe store. It's clearly just a game to them."

"Yeah, but wars aren't cheap," he tells me.

"No. Definitely not. The last Iraqi war cost this nation over $5 billion dollars. That's a lot of money. You wanna know how much this war in Iraq is looking to cost us?"

"How much?"

"When everything is said and done, it's going to cost us over $200 billion dollars..."

"What!?" he asks me. "Are you serious? Why so much?"

"Well, last time, we had international support. This time, the rest of the world wasn't convinced. And in hindsight, I feel like a fool for being convinced myself. You remember why they told us we were going to war?"

"Yeah, because Saddaam had Weapons of Mass Destruction."

"Yeah. Turns out he didn't. And now were up to our elbows in a region where there are three seperate ethnic groups that hate eachother with a passion, each of which claim they would never follow a government that is lead by a ruling member of one of their enemy factions. Worse yet, the only thing these groups have in common is that they want America out of there. How is Democracy supposed to thrive in that kind of environment? Meanwhile, we're weakening our own economy by taking loans from China and Japan that our kids will have to pay back with interest. So while the rest of the world is on the sidelines, this Administration is spending like crazy, borrowing like crazy, and what's the benefit?"

"Well, were stopping the terrorists over there..."

"From what?"

"From coming over here..."

"Well, I don't know about that. It seems to me that if we wanted to stop terrorists from coming over here, the first thing we'd do is beef up our border security and check every crate that comes into our ports. Did you hear about the Chechnyans that they found coming in from Mexico? The Chechnyans were the same group that butchered that school in Russia."

"What? They found Chechnyans coming over the border!? That serious!"

"Yeah. No doubt. Luckily we caught this group. So somebody along the border is doing their jobs. But the rush along the border is getting out of hand. Did you know that Bush endowed $18 million dollars for the National Endowment for the Arts, but $18 million was cut from the Border patrol budget in the same year? How does that even make any sense? Sometimes I jus can't figure this Administration out. They spend with reckless regard for the bottom line, but you or I would be put in jail if we spend like they do. They take loans from other countries that our kids will have to pay back, putting enemies like China as our debtors. They cut taxes to placate the masses, but the don't cut spending (in fact, Bush hasn't vetoed a single spending bill since the Republicans took control of congress). And then they leave our borders porous. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that they were purposefully trying to weaken us. Of course, that's not their goal, but the way the chips have fallen, it looks like that might be the result. I don't know what being mired in an Iraqi civil war does for our own national security with our borders being wide open, and our National Guardsmen being called over there."

"Dang. I'm glad I asked you. I hadn't thought about it like that. Boy, after all that, I can't vote for Bush. I just got my ballot in the mail today. Looks like I'll be voting for Kerry tonight. My wife will be happy about that. She was trying to talk me out of it, but she doesn't know the issues like you do."

"I try to keep up. Don't let me tell you who to vote for, because I've got enough conflict of my own to get figured out as far as that goes. I just know who I'm not voting for and why. I just can't think of any logical reason to reward this president with another term. Can you?"

"No. I really cant."

Wow. Bush is bad for small business? I didn't know. Thanks. I'm not voting for him either.

If it was really that simple, I'll bet I could talk your neighbor out of a piece of his wife's ass.

Don't worry...Taco probably just copy and pasted this from DemocratsUnderground. For Taco it is an appropriate name for the website.

Besides, Bush isn't going to take Washington anyway. So keep plugging away there Taco.

I didn't get that from anywhere... It was a summarization of a conversation I had this afternoon with my neighbor.

So the guy is a moron who doesn't keep up with the daily news, believes everything his neighbor says without verifying facts for himself and waffles over when the moment is convenient without any initiating any work of his own into research.

Hmmmmm
