$#*(@#&*#@*&...taxes on internet purchases

Gotta love Kansas City and Kansas. Amazon.com is charging taxes for these fools. I do a TON of internet shopping and am loathe to keep shopping from sites who will cooperate with these folks unless and until the FEDS are demanding they do so. They are one of the few sites I've had to pay taxes with. I paid none with Overstock.com.

Yes, I realize alot of tax money is lost to internet commerce but that was part of the attraction for some of us over the years...

So what you're saying is, you support the programs that taxes fund, as long as you don't have be the one paying for it....

Do as I say, not as I do.

Programs, like what? Out of control military spending or rebuilding Iraq. Nope.

If the Federal Government starts taxing internet purchases, they'll kill it. No way do people ante up to pay taxes AND shipping. I know I wouldn't.

I think it should be under the same rules as catalog orders, because that is what it is. I think some of them operate this way already, so if Amazon has any offices in KS, then you would be expected to pay sales tax.

But I'm using a KC, MO billing/shipping address. So apparently it's MO as well.

And I believe the rule for catalog orders is that they do not have to charge tax if they do not have a 'presence' in all 50 states. Perhaps that is just the internet rule.

In December most of the internet sites offer Free Shipping. That is why I stay off the roads, save gas and sanity, and shop online. But having to pay taxes on some sites and not others really stinks because you don't know about the tax until checkout.

I ordered something from Amazon the other day, and I wasn't charged tax. I'm in Iowa.
