Has anyone else seen this kid play?

COLE MARCUS was born a little over 4 years ago to parents that are both musicians, the father, a professional drummer and producer, and the mother, a professional vocalist. As early as 8 weeks old, Cole started showing signs of musical gifts, and mom knew he had perfect pitch. At around 10 months, before he could even walk, Cole used to crawl with drumsticks in hand, and climb up onto the drum throne (seat) and was able to play a legitimate beat. At 16 months, he was sitting in with daddy's band playing the blues and rock & roll. At age 2, he was sitting in with daddy's gospel band at church, and was able to play difficult contemporary gospel pieces with the choir and all. At age 2 1/2, he performed his first concert, opening for 2 major gospel recording artists. But basically, Cole is driven, self-promoting, and completely obsessed with drums and music. He composes music daily, masterpieces that are complex and articulate. Any surface he sees becomes a drum, he continually has orchestration going on in his head, and can't sit still long enough because he just has to get it out! He has impeccable music interpretation, and has the ability to play along with a band or ensemble without ever hearing the music piece, but playing proficiently, as if he had already rehearsed it. It's unbelievable! My four year old can barely run without falling down and this kid's composing music and playing jazz drums. |

There's an old joke out there
Q: How do you get a percussionist to shut up? A: Put a chart out in front of him But seriously, that is a freaky Mozart-like prodigy! |

But what's time in the 40? Can he play bump and run, or is he a straight cover 2 kinda guy?

OMG IT'S SLATER!
Yet another reason for me to feel like I've wasted my life when I haven't even turned 20 yet.

Hmm, it must have been his parents that wrote that.
He has a little trouble keeping time... Not to say that it isn't amazing, it's just not THAT amazing. The drummer in my first band was playing Rush covers perfectly at age 7.

I mean, yeah, the kid was pretty amazing for a 4 year old.. but take away the age factor, and his tempo was pretty atrocious. If he's indeed playing with some pro jazz bands, their live musical standards are pretty low. I would bet that he will be phenomenal at 16, by any standards... And covering Neil Peart perfectly at 7? That sounds much more amazing than this kid. ![]()

ok, thanks someone for saying that. this reminds me of the 3 year old kid in lee's summit that could make baskets on a nerf hoop; reebok tried to sign this kid to a contract!
everyone wants to make a million off of a kid that's good at something. his timing is not good, but i'm sure it will get better w/ time....i think the rush covers at 7 is a much more impressive feat! bp |
