Gunther trots out supportive phone calls

Cunningham received some words of encouragement from Tennessee Titan Head Coach Jeff Fisher. “I got a call from (Tennessee's head coach) Jeff Fisher first thing when I came into the office this morning. He said, ‘Gun, you know it's easy to call people after you beat St. Louis and tell you you've played a good game.' But he felt like today was a better day to call me than the day after the St. Louis game. The reason he did he said the same thing I felt: that our football team played probably as tough as they could play, played it to the end. He said his feeling was that if we weathered the storm that we would have a fine football team. I still believe that because if you look at it statistically we've lost eight games by 7.8 points a game and, to me, that says volumes where we are. We make a major error here or there and don't get it done."

Isn't that nice? Didn't he get another call earlier this season when the team was doing horrible? Gosh, isn't Gunther just a great guy to call?

Fisher: "I know how you feel. I went through the same thing with Buddy. He's really a good guy though."

Gunther: "We need to get tougher and run the ball...and if we can't run, we'll pass, so that we can run...because we can't pass all the time...we need to run the pass..."

Fisher: "Well, Gunther, your running game will get better. I gotta run, Eddie George just walked into my office."

My staff & I have been over the film from our first meeting and we found about 15 weaknesses we planned to attack should we have met in the playoffs. I'm really sorry you blew it out your *** and couldn't make the playoffs so we could send you home.

Gun: Thanks, now I have something I talk about in my weekly press conference other than point fingers at my staff. By the way, Jeff - what's the likelihood your defensive coordinator position will be open next year? I'll work for sleeping pills, a gift certificate to Lens Express, & 3 computers in my office.....
