Bell, Hartwell, Smoot, Law.........

Is that it? Is that what we're down to? Are there any other top notch free agents that the Chiefs should be interested in? The talent pool is shrinking fast! I'd be pleased with Hartwell and Smoot or Law. I don't think I'm that interested in Bell, but maybe I'm wrong about him. What about Safety or D-end? We need one of each. Any Safeties or Defensive Ends out there that we should be interested in? I'm really getting worried about this off season.

The options are slimming down.

At CB you basically have Surtain, Smoot, and Law as top-flight options then Dyson, Lewis Sanders, Renoldo Hill, and Aaron Beasely as cheaper and less effective options.

At MLB you have Hartwell and Bell as top flight optioins then guys like,
Ron McKinnon and Rob Morris.

OLB has some decent options. Simmons and Sharper are the top 2 then guys like Polley and Holdman.

All hope is not lost yet but once those 5-7 top guys are gone it gets ugly fast.

Archie's biggest fear is Morris, Polley, and Hill.

I don't want us to give up a 2nd round pick for Surtain. I'd rather get Law or Smoot. Also, I think the Fins may be bluffing. They may release Surtain.

I think Dyson is a better CB then most people give him credit for. I would say he is a top 15 CB in the league, and he is young so he should continue to improve.

Also, why is everyone so against a trade for Surtain? If everyone is right about next year being our last hurrah, what is the point of keeping a 2nd round pick over a Pro Bowl CB? Surtain has been the best CB available since the start of free agency, I have no idea why everyone would rather draft a guy in the 2nd round who won't even see the field next year then a guy who can come in and immediately be the best defensive player on the field.

Perfectly stated. I totally agree. The Chiefs are an old team and need to get younger. You can make a team younger through the draft.

I guess we disagree, I think Surtain is better then Rolle and Smoot, and is on equal level with a healthy Law. Plus he excels in man coverage, so we can put him on an island and not worry about him.

Yes, we do need to find new defensive starters. However, when looking at our past 2nd round picks (i'm sure you've seen the list so I won't repeat the names) I am not at all confident that we will draft a future starter. Carl and Co. are awful at scouting and we have not had a 2nd round pick pan out in awhile. So, if this is truly our last hurrah, why not give up a measly 2nd round pick (or a 4th this year and a 2nd/3rd next year) for a Pro Bowl CB?

No they need to move their talent around and put Battle FS and Bartee SS back at safety where they have always belonged.

Trust me my faith in Carl drafting a 2 guys that will be a good defenseive starter right away is not very good but its the only hope that I can see.

I think Bartee could be a very good safety. He is one of the better tacklers on the team and seems athletic. He just doesnt belong at CB.

I have been saying this for awhile now. Safety should not even be discussed as a priority because Battle and Bartee could easily move to safety which is their natural position.

The defense is already incredibly young.

We need free agents for the defense.
