electric / motorized trunk question 93 towncar

I have a 93 towncar that has an electric trunk. You know you close it easy and then about 2 inches to go the car takes over and closes it the rest of the way.

Well the problem is the auto close is not working. It has been working off and on for a while, now not at all. I wouldnt care other than I can not get it to close all the way down so it is cracked open about an inch or two. If I could get it to shut manually that would be ok.

Anybody have any experience with this kind of thing out there?
Any help would be welcome.

The motor on the assembly probably crapped out. Do you have any mechanical aptitude? Take it apart and find a replacement motor to put in. Else take it to the shop and have them fix the thing.

Also somtimes those trunk parts can become misaligned and jam up the mechanism.

Sounds like the new bracket in your link is the ticket.
Although I still think if you could fix(as in keep from moving) the bracket you have now, it will lock like a normal trunk. If you had a digital camera and could snap a shot of it with the cover off, I bet I could direct you to a quick easy cheap fix.

Took motor off, adjusted turn screw by hand so latch came all the way down, unplugged from electrical plug and now I have an old fashioned but workable trunk.

You should be able to go here and pick one up for next to nothing if you want it working again as well.
