31 is terribily young. I wonder if there is a genetic predisposition towards cancer in the Schottenheimer family? My best wishes go out to Brian...

If I recall correctly, he was diagnosed with this a year or two ago. He had surgery, so this is something new.

I had a friend that died of throat cancer when he was 28. He only lasted about a year from when it was diagnosed.

Brian Schottenheimer, son of former Browns coach Marty Schottenheimer, recently was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Marty said, "They say if you've got cancer, that's the one you want to have. Because it's very slow to develop. If you have a problem and it reoccurs they just go in there and cut it out again. He's doing terrific. The miracles of modern medicine are unbelievable." Brian, 31, is Marty's quarterbacks coach in San Diego. . . .

That sounds like a good prognosis.
