Why the aversion to drafting a young QB?

We have a boatload of picks, two old QBs, no young QB in the pipeline....yet we still won't draft a QB in the middle rounds. You've got other teams taking young QBs as their 4th QB....what gives? It's the most important position on the field.

I think the 5th would have been perfect. We've still got the 6th and 7th though. I'd like to see us pick a guy we can send overseas and let him come along slowly...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

The guy left that I'd like to see us pick is Derek Anderson from Oregon St. Inconsistent, but has a big arm.

Not really the best time for it, with a coaching change expected in '06.

DV's just keeping his options open.

We make a superbowl run or appearance this year and he'll come back. We suck the arse and he won't. Just like the last time his contract was up.

Not a huge need. They will take one in the next 4 picks.

Even if he stays for '06, it's not the time for it. First, it's a luxury pick, and we need players who can contribute now, and second, you'd be starting a two-three year project when you're expecting an overhaul on the coaching staff at the end of that period. And, frankly, I don't like the idea of spending middle-round picks on QBs anyway. High picks or free agents is a more logical route, to me.

It is a huge need, really. Besides, drafting young QBs isn't about a "need" because they're probably not going to play that first year anyway. However, wouldn't it make sense to bring a guy in when your top 2 QBs are in their mid 30s?

Yeah, I'd hate to draft another Tom Brady.

Oh, I'd love to draft a Tom Brady. What I don't want is a Tee Martin, Marc Bulger, Spergon Wynn, Todd Husak, JaJuan Seider, Tim Rattay, Jarious Jackson or Joe Hamilton.

I am have no problem with always getting a proven veteran. I have no problem with never having a QBOTF. Either way I just want a good QB if the Chiefs drafted him or not.

Just my opinion.

Bulger went to the Pro Bowl, didn't he?
