Pactrick Surtain VS Randy Moss, some stats....

Just was wondering today if Surtain and Moss had every met head to head so I did a little research and this is what I found.

First off, let me say I am not sure IF Surtain was actually one on one with Moss or if they had Sam Madison on him.

Both have played in the NFL 7 seasons coming in in 1998

There have been 2 matchups.

The first one was in week 2 of the 2000 season it was in Minnesota and the Vikes won 13-7. Moss had 6 receptions for 87 yards and a 15 yd t.d. reception.
Surtain had 1 tackle and 4 passes defended in that game.

The second meeting came in week 16 of 2002 it was also played in Minnesota and again the Vikes won, this time 20-17. Moss had 7 catches for 110 yards, no receiving t.d.'s but had a passing t.d of 13 yards.
Surtain had 3 tackles and 1 pass defended.

Just thought I would throw the stats out there.....

Anyway we are going to score 50 Points on a bad raiders
defense which even got worse.

Can't just look at the stats like that anyway. Surtain might not have been on Moss for every catch.

some of those catches could have been in zone coverage...Surtain could have been out on a couple of plays....

If holding the Raiders to 13 or 20 points means Moss does well, that's fine by me.

Yeah, 20 points, 13 points, neither score is really fearsome. If Surtain holds Moss to one touchdown, Id call that a pretty damn good performance.

Our offense is going to completely smoke that Raiders D, so the defense will have some points to work with.

As you said yourself, it's tough to know if these stats mean anything specific to Surtain, but I'll say this: If he can keep Moss to ~100 yards and one TD or less in each game, he'll be a hellua lot better than what we had last year (I can imagine Moss putting up 200+ with 3 TDs against us easily).

Another problem with that comparison is both of those games involved a pretty good Pro Bowl-caliber QB, Culpepper throwing Moss the ball.

Its a different story now with interception machine Kerry Collins floating the ball up there.

Having Kerry Collins throw Randy Moss passes is like buying a car with no engine

or alternately, paying 50 mil for 2 receptions a game
