K.C. Chiefs Training Camp Daily Updates

The skies looked threatening this morning as the Chiefs held their final practice of training camp in River Falls. The temperature was 68 degrees with a dew point of 65 degrees. The wind started to pick up and raindrops began to fall just as practice finished. Fan attendance was typically slim for the final farewell of camp; seven were in attendance.

Fans

Todd Nelson of Woodbury, Minn. is a Chiefs season ticket holder. "It's nice to drive over and see them and get a closer look," said Todd. "I only get to about four games a season, and my seats are in the upper deck, so it's nice to be this close."

John Gerstberger of Rib Lake, Wis., usually comes to camp for two sessions. "I like to come for the first couple of days and the last couple of days," said Gerstberger. "I like to see the guys one last time. I'm really excited about the new additions to defense and I love coming to River Falls," he added.

Justin Brown , 13, has been volunteering at Summer Training Camp for two years. He enjoys assisting with Chiefs practice because it gives him an opportunity to get closer to the players. His favorite player is cornerback Eric Warfield and is delighted that he could get Warfield's autograph while here at camp. Brown is a Packers fan at heart, but says that the Chiefs are his second favorite team. He is from River Falls .

Richard Raymond, Fridley, Minn ., attended his first Chiefs Summer Training Camp this year. A football player himself, Raymond uses this experience as an opportunity to improve his own game. "I loved watching the drills and hearing the coaches," he said. "It gave me new ideas on how to get better." Raymond was impressed by the speed and quickness of wide receiver Dante Hall and appreciated the intensity of rookie linebacker Boomer Grigsby . He believes that the team has good chance of making the playoffs this year but only if the defense "takes their game to the next level." Raymond enjoyed his experience here at River Falls and said will most likely return for years to come.

All of the injured Chiefs players performed conditioning and agility drills on the practice fields. Two young boys ran back and forth with the players along the side rail.

As wide receiver Eddie Kennison sounded the final horn of Summer Training Camp , the entire squad rejoiced and let out a sigh of relief. No players stayed on the field afterwards to work on skills because all were extremely excited to return back home to Kansas City .

At today's practice, a walk through, the players were in sweats. The practice was only 45 minutes, and consisted of running and passing plays. However, the atmosphere was very laid back, and it was obvious that players, coaches, and staff were ready to get home. As wide receiver Eddie Kennison sounded the final horn of Summer Training Camp, the entire squad rejoiced and let out a sigh of relief. After practice, many of the players ran to the locker rooms in excitement to get back home to Kansas City.

Coach Dick Vermeil talked about this year's team and the camp overall. "I think it's time to go home, and continue what we need to do to be a good football team. The attitude of the team is that they are relaxed, they are happy it's over, they know they are going home with more talent, more depth, more consistent work days then we have had in the past. Overall it has been positive. We had the night off incident, but that is something that won't make a difference in winning and losing," said Vermeil.

Players who will not play Saturday night include tight end Tony Gonzalez, linebackers Kendrell Bell and Keyaron Fox, and guard Will Shields. Also not playing are all of the players who have been on the injured list during camp. Coach Vermeil said that they might be able to play running back Samkon Gadon a little bit, depending on what the doctors say tomorrow.

Coach Vermeil said that he does not have to make any tough decisions regarding the roster this week, but that he had to make them next week. "I talked to the whole squad this morning and that evaluation process is more serious tomorrow night," said Vermeil.

HAVE A GREAT SEASON, CHIEFS AND FANS, AND SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

610 said that they've got tomorrow night, and 2 more preseason games, but when the team gets back home they work mostly on preparing for the opener.

Said that DV won't say it, but he's got the 53 man roster already done in his head, mostly, but subject to change. The guys that get the most work tomorrow night, will likely be the ones that make the first cut after the 3rd game (reason being is because the starters will play most of the 3rd game), not including the injured vets or the younger players that are expected to be of some productive service when they get back healthy.
