Someone emailed me this and it's already starting to look very familiar.

May 26, 2004 - Kendrell Bell hasn't returned to practice from a groin injury he suffered in a minicamp session on May 7, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "It's not a problem," Bell said of the injury. "I just need to rest it."

Aug 17, 2004 - The Steelers expect Kendrell Bell to return to practice by Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. An MRI revealed no major damage to Bell's shoulder.

Aug 24 Still bothered by a shoulder injury that sidelined him last week, Kendrell Bell remained out of practice yesterday and is questionable for Thursday's exhibition game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Aug 25 A shoulder injury will keep Kendrell Bell from playing in his second straight exhibition game Thursday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Sep 10 The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Kendrell Bell missed practice on Thursday with a sore groin. Bell was already listed as questionable with a shoulder injury, and his status for the season opener is up in the air.

Sep 11 Kendrell Bell probably will not play tomorrow, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bell has been bothered by a sore groin, though the shoulder injury that kept him from the final three exhibition games isn't an issue.

Sep 29 Kendrell Bell has yet to play this season due to his strained groin and will again be listed as questionable this week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Oct 2 The Steelers have ruled Kendrell Bell out for Sunday's game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He's still recovering from a strained groin.

Oct 5 Kendrell Bell will meet with a specialist today to determine the extent of his groin injury, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. If the problem goes beyond inflammation and involves muscle tears, Bell's absence could be prolonged indefinitely. As it is now, he hasn't played since the exhibition opener.

Oct 6 The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Kendrell Bell will undergo surgery on his groin today for what Steelers coach Bill Cowher dubbed a sports hernia. He likely will miss at least the next two games, followed by the Steelers' bye week.

Oct 21 Steelers coach Bill Cowher said Kendrell Bell should return to practice next week, though it's unclear at this time whether Bell will be able to play in Week 8, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Bell is recovering from hernia surgery.

Oct 27 Recovering from a sports hernia, Kendrell Bell is listed as questionable this week, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "We'll see what he does as the week goes on," said Steelers coach Bill Cowher.

Oct 30 Kendrell Bell went through an entire week of practice for the first time since training camp but is not expected to play tomorrow, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He should return from his sports hernia next week. "I'm just trying to do the smart thing," Bell said. "I got a lot more football left in me. One game of not playing isn't much to me right now. Nov 3 Kendrell Bell likely will play Sunday for the first time this season, but it will be some time before he gets his job back as a starting inside linebacker, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bell has not played since the first exhibition game because of a sports hernia.

Nov 10 Larry Foote again will start ahead of Kendrell Bell this week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Larry will start and we will continue to work Kendrell in there," coach Bill Cowher said yesterday. Bell replaced Foote in his first game back Sunday in the second quarter and played most of the second half. Bell had been out with a sports hernia.

Dec 14 The Steelers already have ruled Kendrell Bell out for Week 15 due to his groin injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Dec 21 The Steelers have ruled Kendrell Bell out for Sunday's game due to his groin injury, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Dec 24 Kendrell Bell practiced yesterday for the first time since before Thanksgiving, though he remains out for Sunday's game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jan 14 Kendrell Bell was sent home for the second day in a row on Thursday because his flu and fever became "significant," according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Bell, who is also nursing a groin injury, was downgraded to questionable.

Jan 15 Kendrell Bell is expected to be deactivated for today's playoff game because of a fever that was 101 degrees on Friday and kept him away from his teammates for the third day in a row, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers fear that Bell's fever could last into next week and prevent him from playing in the AFC Championship game, if they make it that far.

Jan 18 Kendrell Bell rejoined the Steelers on Monday after battling the flu for most of the last week, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Bell has also been out with a groin injury, and his status for the AFC title game is unclear.

Jan 22 Kendrell Bell said he's "ready to go" on Sunday after being sidelined since Nov. 21 with a groin injury and recently by the flu, but it remains unclear if the Steelers will suit him up for the game, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jan 23 Kendrell Bell was held out of Sunday's AFC championship game with a sore groin. He played in only three games this season and hasn't been in a game since Nov. 21.

Jan 24 The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Kendrell Bell can become an unrestricted free agent in March but would prefer to re-sign with the Steelers. "Nothing would bring me more joy than to stay in Pittsburgh," he said. "We'll see." He missed all but three games this season with a groin injury.

Mar 8 The Chiefs signed Kendrell Bell to a seven-year deal on Tuesday, according to the AP. He missed all but three games this past season because of a groin injury. "We're pleased to acquire Kendrell's services and we think he will make an impact for the Chiefs in 2005 and beyond," Chiefs team president Carl Peterson said. "He's a quality football player, as well as a quality person."

Aug 12,2005 Chiefs coach D Vermeil said he will hold Kendrell Bell out of tonight's preseason game as a precaution, according to the KC Star. He missed most of last season with a groin injury. And thus the name Kendrell "Hang-nail" Bell was born. Bell = damaged goods plain and simple. The CHIEFS were wise to sign him to a two -tier deal. They knew there was a risk and planned accordingly - while at the same time insisting that Bell was healthy.

I thought it was pretty educational about Bells history and will make people avoid building up false hope for games this year when his status is in question. Realize that when anything is in doubt concerning Bell the answer is always the same.....he's not playing. Personally I now list him in my own mind as a nice potential bonus to defense but not as an every week player or a starter. If he plays then that's a bonus but if not then your regular starters are used to getting the job done anyway so no big deal.

That's a good way to look at it and I'm right there with you. It just $ucks in the CHIEFS case that our regular starters have not been getting it done for the better part of 4 years now and Bell was brought in to be a starter that did.

Last Friday, Tennessee tore apart the Falcons defense, particularly through the air, completing 36 of 54 passes to 15 receivers to rack up a whopping 411 passing yards (7.6 yards per catch). The way the Atlanta secondary trailed two steps behind the Titans’ receivers all night, it’s surprising the 40-point total wasn’t felled more easily in the 24-21 final.

But some key defensive players watched the game from the sidelines and their contributions were sorely missed as receivers roamed the field almost freely. That’s not good news against a Jaguars team that seems to have solved the problems that left them in last place in the AFC in scoring offense last year. They rolled over the totals in both of their preseason games this summer.
