Chiefs 30th ranked pass defense?

Patrick Surtain? Sammy Knight? It'll work during the regular season but not in the postseason!

Uhh it might be due to us shutting down the running game on both of our previous opponents. We gave 57 yards to Martin and 59 to Jordan. Teams tend to throw the ball when they can't run as evidenced by Pennington/Collins being around 35 attempts. 35 attempts per game will put you near the top of the league.

Exactly!

I think it sucks that NFL ranks their defenses based on yards allowed rather than rating them based on points allowed. Points allowed is MUCH more important than yards.

Obviously points allowed is the uh.. point. But I think the ranking should be yards/attempt.

Stats don't win games...points do. And don't expect that to change. Our running game is so woeful right now that we'll be passing most of the night.

Not to get too far ahead but,the Eagles threw the ball 56 times yesterday. That scares me come next week.Running game or not, they have the weapons to turn those throws into points in my opinion.

You also have to realize that we lost Surtain for nearly 3 quarters as well, and you just can't make up for 2 bad corners.

The way to beat the Eagles is to stop Westbrook...you do that and you'll have a chance. Hard task though...they line that guy up everywhere.

With Donovan McNabb hurt and not running right... that is a recipe for him to get his neck broken at Arrowhead. Even the Raiders, whose defensive scheme is stronger against the run than pass, were able to get to and knock McNabb around yesterday. The thing that saved the Eagles' offense was Westbrook.

Stop Bryant Westbrook, and McNabb will have a bullseye on his chest.

I like it the way it is. Total yards is a good indication of a defense's defensive defensivness. A team that gets lots of three and outs is not going to be scored on very much. Chances are a team that is extremely stingy giving up yards is going to be among the leaders in other catagories as well.

This bend but don't break thing I don't buy. You can't give up a lot of yards and expect to keep your opponent off the score board for very long. It WILL catch up with you because you will begin to lose the battle of field position.

The Chiefs do need to watch out as far as their pass defense is concerned. Opponents will begin to test that phase of their game right from the opening kickoff if it proves to be vulnerable. Right now, I think, its hard to say.

It sure is nice to see them shutting down the run, though and creating turnovers.

Hmmmm. I don't remember typing Randy Moss when I typed the Raiders in this post. Was it my subconscious, programmed by the subtle mind control messages sent out by Sterling Sharpe? Mysteries...

Any team who has a dominating offense with a great run stopping defense will have a lot of yards passing against them. The opponents are in desperation & throw just about every down. If you notice on the stats, most 300 yard passers LOSE their games, while RB's who rush for 100 yards WIN their games.

It's a statistical anomaly.
