The Flu

So, who has had the flu this season? It's really been going around. I had it last Tuesday night/Wednesday. My boss has it today (which means I'm in charge tonight). Sounds like she has it worse than me. I didn't have the aches and pains. I had the fever chills and "everything else" though. Glad to say I survived it. I wonder if my flu shot helped?

Wow. Two weeks? I think I would have killed myself after day two! Thank goodness I just had the 24 hour bug. Hope you're back to 100% soon!

I've dodged it so far, but had a wicked cold back in October.

Avoiding the Flu
Here are some tips to keep in mind to aid in avoiding the flu:

1. Frequently wash your hands. Most cold and flu viruses are spread by direct contact. Germs can live for hours – in some cases weeks. If no sink is available, rub your hands together hard for a minute to help break up the cold germs.
2. Use a tissue to cover your sneezes and coughs and then throw the tissue away immediately.
3. Don’t touch your face. Cold and flu viruses enter your body through the eyes, nose or mouth.
4. Drink plenty of fluids. Water flushes your system, washing out the poisons as it rehydrates you.
5. Get fresh air. Central heating dries you out and makes your body more vulnerable to cold and flu viruses. Also, during cold weather more people stay indoors, which means more germs are circulating in crowded, dry rooms.
6. Exercise regularly. Exercises help increase the body's natural virus-killing cells.
7. Eat right. Foods containing phytochemicals – dark green, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits – have natural chemicals that give the vitamins in food a supercharged boost. Also, try yogurt, as some studies have shown that eating a daily cup of low-fat yogurt can reduce your susceptibility to colds by 25 percent
8. Don’t smoke or be around smoke. Smoke can zap the immune system, making it more difficult to get better.
9. Cut alcohol consumption. Alcohol destroys the liver, the body's primary filtering system, which means that germs of all kinds won't leave your body as fast and can dehydrate you.
10. Relax. There's evidence that when you put your relaxation skills into action, your interleukins, leaders in the immune system response against cold and flu viruses, increase in the bloodstream.

I was sick Thursday through yesterday. Sunday was the bad bad day. Today, I feel almost back to normal.

Whatever normalcy I had.

If you work at a desk, keep it clean. I heard a statistic saying that desks can carry more bacteria and germs than toilets because they do not get cleaned and sanitized as often.

10. Relax.
How can I relax if I don't drink or smoke?

Plus, the best way for me to get through any sickness is to slam a couple cocktails and rip a couple bongs.

Then I can relax and enjoy my day off, sick or not.

Thanks, it has really tested me.

Let me give you the setting on how I got this.

It's two weeks and 4 days ago. My 16 year old has company over, they spend most of the evening in his room playing video games. About 11:00 pm my son comes out and says ' Dad, can you give Andrew a ride home?'.
When I ask why he tells me that Andrew has a temp. of about 102 and has had it all evening. After my reply of WTF, WTH is he doing here? Why isn't he home instead of at my house , infecting my family with whatever he has? I get the usual reply of ' I duuuunnnnnnnooooo'. Upon further inquiry I find out that this kids mom had been in the hospital for three days with the same crap. When I ask why one of his parents can't come get him I'm told because they are asleep.
After dropping Andrew off at his house I proceed to chew my 16 yr olds ass up one side and down the other. Which, in turn, elicites a multitude of responses that only confirm my suspicions. My 16 yr old son is completely brain dead.
The next day Andrews' father drops of my boys coat(my son let him wear it home). I ask him how Andrews feeling I'm told not too good. They took him to the ER and after some tests were ran they found out that not only did he have the flu but he also had luekemia. He was getting ready to take Andrew to a hospital in Memphis that specialized in children with leukemia.
Four days later two of us come down with the killer flu.

On the one hand I"m PO'd about the whole situation. On the other I'm thankful that all my family has to deal with is the flu.

I'm constantly reminded this time of year by Brideowanian that "the flu" is respiratory and not the usual crap and barfathon most people claim.

Ironically, I'm home today tending to the main thing, while she's recovering from some Nuclear bug. I found her on the floor this morning, after a long night of power barfing.

I'm feeling a little "iffy" but holding on for now. Hopefully, I can hold it off......at least until she's back on her feet.

Okay. I'm gonna have to stop reading this thread. These stories are bringing up horrible memories from last week. The smell of spaghetti will get to me for awhile.
