WPI Following NEPA?

I was attempting to view WPI's forum and now when you click on the forums it says you must submit an application and register to view the forums. I believe this is what NEPA does, but I'm not positive since I am not a member of either board. Are all of the scout boards going to do this?

I think it's just to get people to register since it will start to get busy once FA starts. That way lurkers won't bog down the site. (I think)

Alot of scout.com sites do this to encourage lurkers to register.

Chiefsplanet has done this several times as well.

It's also a method of pushing people to take the trouble to actually register, which pushes them more fully into the community. While I imagine they're happy with the increased traffic the site's gotten since Phil arrived on the scene, they probably want more tangible numbers, in the form of registered members.

Yup, since I don't know that their servers have had any sort of load capacity issue, I'm guessing it is to bump up their numbers to look better to advertisers. ChiefsPlanet was always done because of a capacity issue.

Yeah, several guys have hit on the correct answer. It has nothing to do with performance, though.

I got tired of looking at 60 users online and 20 of them weren't registered. I think coaxing a lurker out of lurkerdom is a challenge. I was a lurker once. The first step is registering an account, then when you're tempted to fire out a response it's more convenient when you're already registered. Whereas if a lurker hasn't registered and is tempted to response, he's going to be that less likely if he has the hassle of registering as a hurdle.

I don't have all the answers but we're improving quickly. We've more than doubled traffic in 3 months and they appear to have bought in to most of my more important initiatives.

Plus, the Birdman pic is back. Frick'n hilarious stuff.

I saw a link for Chiefs Planet at WPI, so I thought I'd sign up and pitch in my 2C.

I would think that an administrator of these boards like yourself would know how to exercise some self control when dealing with such issues. Instead you are encouraging users of this board and others to harass a 16 year old kid because he called you out on the internet.

When I talked to a few other former WPI members, they gave me some interesting information pertaining to you. Some of it I'm not even going to mention here because it's pretty disgusting. I don't know all the facts, but it appears to me that you are interested in perpetuating a flame war. As a matter of fact, you are encouraging it. If I'm correct, you did something similar several years back which resulted in a very nasty situation.

I don't have to remind you that age 16 is considered a minor. I would think that a community leader would handle things differently, especially one that's more than twice the subject's age! I thought that until I heard more about you.

I plan to urge some friends of this young man to contact his parents. If his friends at school got ahold of things like that, they could be very cruel. It could end up damaging him more than you know. But then again, from what I've heard you really don't care about things like that.

It seems like you have a major problem with people challenging you. What's more is that you seem to have a major problem handling it on your own. Why is it that you need so many of your friends to come to your aid against a 16 year old kid? Could you please explain the logic behind that?

To put it in layman's terms, a 16 year old kid pushed your buttons and gave you a smack down. You're playing it off like you're having a laugh at his expense. But the way I see it, it's the other way around. Because I know if I was 16 again and it took 15 grown men to fight one me, I'd be laughing my azz off.

I suggest you do some of your own fighting, without the aid of a mob to back you up. If for anything to save face. I find this to be a despicable act on your part. The sooner people like you are purged from these message boards, the safer our kids and our privacy will be.

I have no idea what T869 is talking about. I was just wondering why WPI started a register or you see nothing type of policy. A mod can feel free to lock and erase this at any time it. It seems like it is on the verge of becoming some bizarre war over Phobia and a 16 year old boy.
