Software to edit out static from digital audio recording?

So I recorded my appearance on a local AM talk radio show today. The radio that I used to record the show didn't get a really strong signal, so there was a good amount of static in the recording.

I'm wondering if there is any editing software out there (opensource, free or free trial) that can be used to tone down or edit out the higher pitched static and leave the voice conversation.

Thanks!

I'd probably try to work the other way, but whatever floats your boat.

You won't have good luck removing the static unless it's pretty consistent through the whole thing. You'd probably have much better luck just asking the station for a dupe.

It's just a thought, but if the static is on the high end of the spectrum, have you thought about taking any sound program with an eq and eliminating anything above say 4khz?
