Motherboard question

I picked up a new motherboard, which the salesman told me is a standard ATX motherboard, which is what my case is designed to hold. However, when I got it put in, I discovered that the connector from the power source is a 24-point connector, while the socket on the board is a 20-point socket. The 24-point male connector fits just fine into the 20-point female socket, with the remaining four points (1,2,23,24, I think) hanging over the side and not plugged into anything. Can someone tell me if this is okay, or will it mess things up if I put power to it? Do I need to either get a new board with a 24-point socket or a new power supply with a 20-point connector, or will this work as it is?

I would HIGHLY recommend getting a 20-24 pin adapter. You can pick them up on ebay or newegg for just a few bucks.
