DEs: Rankings, Profiles, and Scouting Reports

What I'm hoping for here is, that posters will find profiles and scouting reports from the top prospects at each of the positions of need for the Chiefs.

I'll use Laz's "rankings" from Draftdaddy.com, to start these threads...I hope you don't mind Laz; Draftdaddy's are a good place to start....

There are lots of "free sites" with profiles and scouting reports out there....this is the place to put all the stuff for WRs. However, if you have access to a premium site (and you have the right to cut and paste, with appropriate crediting of sources) and can post the profiles and scouting reports of the top prospects, or intriguing prospects that you would like to pimp/promote.....here's your chance.

80.5 Pros: Decent size with great speed off the edge. A durable player who works hard. Had a strong senior season. Has enough speed to possibly play LB in the 3-4.
Cons: May be overwhelmed in the NFL. Will need to bulk up to be successful in the NFL. Draft Exchange Analysis:
College Bio:
Senior Year (2005): One of the top defensive ends in the country...recorded two sacks in three different games in 2005 (Miami, Syracuse and Virginia)...ranked second on the team in sacks with 7.5...missed the Clemson, Florida and Virginia Tech games with a knee injury he suffered in the NC State game...at the time of his injury, he was tied for first in the conference in sacks...had 11.0 tackles for loss on the season which ranked second on the team behind only Brodrick Bunkley...led the team in quarterback hurries with 17...was named second team all-ACC...recorded a season-high five tackles and two sacks against Miami...set career-highs in season sacks and tackles for loss...started all 10 games that he played in...returned to the starting lineup for the Orange Bowl against Penn State...Played in 49 of 52 career games...earned the Hinesman Award from the coaching staff as the most dominating player during spring practice in 2005.

Height: 6-3 7/8 | Weight: 248 | 40-Time: 4.61

Strengths:
Tremendous natural athlete...Fast and very quick with a burst...Can wreak havoc rushing the passer off the edge...Does an excellent job in pursuit and can close on the ball...Changes directions well...Very productive and stood out on a talented defense...Team player with top intangibles...Is also an excellent special teams prospect...Still has a lot of upside and hasn't reached his full potential.

Weaknesses:
Undersized and lacks bulk...Needs to hit the weight room and get stronger...May have to change positions at the next level...Does not hold up at the point of attack...A liability against the run...Struggles to shed blockers...Is basically a one trick pony who relies solely on his speed...Needs to work on technique and make better use of his hands...Might only be a situational player in the pro ranks.

Notes:
Could be a 3-4 outside linebacker...Entered college at only 210 lbs so he has done a good job of adding weight and has the frame to get bigger still...A classic 'tweener who a team will need to find the right role for...At the very least he should excel as a situational pass rusher and he could easily be a lot more.

79.5 Pros: Strong work ethic, solid pass rusher as he has the strength to rip through blocks and the speed and athleticism to get to the QB quickly. Doesn't give up on plays and is an adequate run stopper as well.
Cons: Could add some weight to his frame for the 4-3 or lose weight if he does make the switch to the 3-4 OLB which is unlikely after the pro day weigh-in (263). Sometimes doesn't wrap up well on tackles. Just needs more experience to get even better. Draft Exchange Analysis:
Fan Expert profile submitted by Heftybag87:

Pros: Coming from a war torn Liberia, Hali knows about hardship. He never even heard of football until he came to america. His childhood shaped his character and made him a perseverer and gave him a strong work ethic. He is the essential pass rusher. He can get to the quarterback and disrupt the play with ease. He is a fast DE who can crash the line and break up a run. He seems to be always in the backfield and never gives up on a play. He can chase a RB down if needed. All in all, has the potential to be the next dwight Freeny.

Cons: A bit undersized at DE, could gain 10-15 pounds. Sometimes needs to wrap up better. Just needs to learn more of the nuances of the game.

1st team all big-10, Big 10 DL of the year, Hendricks award finalist, 11 sacks - most in big-10

Height: 6-3 | Weight: 275 | 40-Time: 4.86

Strengths:
Very solid and compactly built...A very good athlete...Intense and very competitive with tons of energy...Has a motor that never stops...Very quick off the ball...Is real explosive with an excellent closing burst...Has good strength and will not get pushed around...Really came into his own as a senior...Versatile player who has experience at defensive tackle as well as dropping into coverage...Still improving.

Weaknesses:
Does not have great size and is a little on the short side...His timed speed is nothing to get excited about...Lacks a wide variety of pass rush moves...Has short arms and doesn't use his hands well...Can be engulfed by bigger offensive lineman and double teams...Made a lot of his plays rushing off the edge...Maxed out and probably doesn't have the frame to get much bigger than he already is.

Notes:
A native of Liberia who came to the United States when he was 10-years-old...Doesn't have any outstanding physical tools but is very effective due to his top intangibles...An all-around lineman who can rush the passer and play the run.

By popular demand....

Manny Lawson....he's supposedly up to 260 lbs; projects more as an OLB in a 3-4....but....

79.5 Pros: ATHLETIC, has seen time at both DE and OLB, amazing speed and athleticism for the position, very quick off the bal; great pass rusher with long reach.
Cons: Tweener at both DE or OLB, could add some weight, not very strong, needs to get better against the run, overshadowed by Mario Williams. Draft Exchange Analysis:
While he may be overshadowed by fellow standout DE Mario Williams, Manny Lawson is something special in his own right. He is incredibly fast (runs a 4.4) and has great size at 65 245 lbs. While Many think that Mario is a better sack artist, Lawson actually lead the team in 2004 with 7 sacks. He has had an equally productive senior season amassing 70 tackles (20 for a loss), with 10 sacks, 21 QB pressures, 1 FF, and a Punt Block. While this may seem too good to be true, Lawson does have his flaws like everyone else. He falls into the Tweener category and would be well suited as a 3-4 OLB. He also could stand to add some weight to his lanky frame and needs to get better against the run. If he can accomplish those things, look for Lawson to be a best in the pros like his Mario.

One Word To Describe Lawson: Athletic / Overshadowed

Most Like: Jason Taylor, Miami Dolphins

Height: 6-5 3/8 | Weight: 241 | 40-Time: 4.43

Strengths:
An amazing athlete with rare ability...Has outstanding speed and quickness with a great burst...Extremely explosive...Tremendous pass rusher off the edge...Good agility and can drop into coverage...Smart player with good instincts...Good tackler...Makes plays in space...Productive and can be very disruptive...Vertical jump is higher than the device used to measure that stat...Has a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:
Vastly undersized...A DE / OLB 'tweener who may not have a clear position at the pro level...Struggles to defend the run...Needs to get stronger...Gets engulfed by massive offensive tackles...Doesn't always play with good leverage...Needs to use his hands better...Is he just a workout warrior?...Won't be a fit for every team and will need to be in the right system to succeed...Relies on speed heavily.

Notes:
Competed as a hurdler, long jumper, triple jumper and even a relay runner for the Wolfpack track team...The prevalence of the 3-4 defense in the NFL will likely help Lawson's case since he would seem to be a prototypical OLB is that scheme.

That last line in Hali's scouting report is what kills him, "maxed out". I don't think alot of teams like using a first round player on a player with little upside.

Of course that is what you glean from one report, but the other says "All in all, has the potential to be the next dwight Freeny." Yet further proof that it's all a crapshoot, and everybody has an opinion. That's why it's so much fun!!

Prolly moot anyway. If Lawson is on the board @20, I think that's the pick, whether we like it or not. Maybe they'll put Bell on the bench, and use Manny in the DT role.
