Tom and Jerry: What Was Your Favorite Era?

Having little ones, I occasionally catch an old Tom & Jerry cartoon on the TV, and it reminds me of something from my childhood: I absolutely hated/hate the Chuck Jones era of Tom & Jerry.

I think my favorite era was the classic Hanna-Barbera era (1940-1958).

You?

Yeah, I didnt like the Chuck Jones version either. I always thought the music was a bit weird.

FYI, a good show to catch some of the old MGM and WB cartoons from the olden days in their original uncut version, is Cartoon Alley on Turner Classic Movies.

You're exactly right. I like the older stuff. The same goes for Bugs Bunny. The older stuff is better. I really hate the cartoons of today.

Loved the early cartoons. My favorite is where Jerry has a little baby mouse visiting, Tom spanks him with a flyswatter and Jerry beats the crap out of Tom. Every once in a while my kid catches one of the old ones on the TV I have to stop and watch.

I thought I read or saw somewhere where Chuck Jones only had less than 1/4 of the budget to produce his versions. That being said the older versions where the best.

I liked the old ones the best. The one where they overflow the sink and freeze the water with the freezer elements and then ice skate was really cool. So were the Holiday ones like the Thanksgiving short.

I used to like the old Popeye cartoons when I was growing up about a million years ago. I had not seen one in years and I was shocked at how violent it was. It was nothing but Bluto and Popeye trying to beat the crap out of each other.
