i'm not a big fan of warren haynes...i don't dislike them, but nothing they've ever released has really grabbed me.... they did put on a decent show last year on one of the main stages, but i left in the middle to go and see wilco, they really tore the place down...we're thinking of doing a one day pass just to go and hang out, maybe catch the biscuits

Are you shitten' me? The line-up is utterly fantastic!

For starters; three of my favorite bands will be there: Railroad Earth, MOFRO, and Donna the Buffalo. If you've never heard these guys play- you are sorely missing out on some great music.

Since you're into Phish- I can't see why you wouldn't like Tea Leaf Green- they are quickly establishing themselves as a band to admire greatly in the world of improvisational/jam. I really dig their music.

The Greyboy Allstars will be a load of fun! Awesome music to dance your booties to. Robert Randolph will get you moving as well too.

STS9 is no different than Disco Biscuits- I'm sorry, but the Biscuits are a little overrated.

New Monsoon, Hackensaw Boys, Moonshine Still, Hot Buttered Rum, and Rose Hill Drive are all very good bluegrass bands that will make you shake your hips whether you like or it not.

Look for Papa Mali to be a big surprise act. Groovy music.

Andrew Bird is a great songwriter, but I've never seen him live. The same can be said for Tim Reynolds.

But Gov't Mule and Warren Haynes- who is quite possibly the hardest working and busiest man in the music business. I've never enjoyed the blues until I've heard Warren jam- he brings a surreal quality of beauty to his music. You may not like Warren and his music, but you have to admire his ability to persistently perform at a high level.

This is an outstanding line-up for Wakarusa- the names may not be marquee, but there's a great number of quality music to enjoy. You only hurt yourself, if you diss the music.

i've tried tea leaf green, not a big fan, they sound a little bit generic to me....maybe when they mature a little bit i can get into them more...

mofro's ok, greyboy's are ok, just not any bands that really grabbed me...

i'm not really all that into the "new bluegrass" kind of bands...rose hill drive is OK, they remind me of a mix between zeppelin and black sabbath, they played a surprisingly good set last year on the sundown stage, closing w/ Sabbath's "Fairies Wear Boots"

i have nothing but respect for warren haynes and i've tried to like mule, but i just don't get it....i feel the same way about panic, sci, and lots of other bigger jambands that really got big in the wake of phish quitting...

i do however like moe. and i'm surprised that they've had 3 wakarusas w/out having moe. at least once

in any case, i will be at moe/umphrey's mcgee in westport on 6/2 if anyone wants to meet to debate the validity of all these "new jambands"

I just went and looked at the lineup. I would probably spend my entire time going to the small stages if I went. For those going, let me recommend a few smaller acts:

1. The Yard Dog Road Show: I saw these guys a long time ago at some weird festival in Arkansas. I cannot stress enough how much you should go see this show. Checking out their website, it looks like they've only impoved the act since I saw them. Seriously, if you've never see it, check it out. It might be the most interesting thing you see all weekend.

2. Shooter Jennings. He had a cameo in Walk the Line, playing his dad. He's cool and worth catching.

3. Lucero. They're awesome. Of course, they play around here quite a bit, too, so might not want to 'waste' your time checking them out at a huge festival.

4. Eckobase: They're playing on the homegrown stage. These are some local boys, some of whom are good friends. Go check 'em out if you get a chance.

Finally, I'd go just to see the Lips.

I followed the Panic tour for a year up to Mikey's last show, and saw MOFRO quite a few times. They are ok. I'm sure it would be a good time at the W, but I'm not really into that scene anymore. Although if Panic made an appearence, I would make time to see them again... or if The Mars Volta made an appearence like Bonnaroo.

I'll see the Lips wherever they play.

WSP is opening their tour this year in KC, just before they head off to red rocks
