Does Gonzo still have what it takes? (Fantasy question)

I am being offered Gonzo for a 7th round pick in one of my keeper leagues and am curious if I am missing out on anything here.

Did he drive a motorcycle without a helmet or anything, without me hearing about it?

Gonzo didn't have the spectacular season I am used to seeing from him last year, but I still consider him a stud TE.

If all is fine in Gonzo land then I am definitely making the trade, but I'd like for a few of the fans on this board to chime in for assurance.

Thx in advance.

2nd best fantasy TE in the league.

Some people may fear that his value will drop because he'll have to block more with the absence of Roaf. There may be a little to that, but there still isn't another TE (other than Gates) that will get the number of opportunities Gonzo does.

Gonzo is probably good for 7-10 Touchdowns.

How many players do you keep in your league?

Its a go as far as I am concerned then.

I wasn't sure if he had any recent injuries that I wasn't aware of.

This is an absolute steal.

We get to keep 5.

I just got into this league last year, so I adopted a crappy team.

Managed to pickup a few decent players.

So far my holds are Hasselbeck, Leftwich, Warric Dunn, McGahee and Algae Crumpler.

I am going to drop Leftwich like a bad habit (in place for Gonzo)... that should solidify my TE position anyways.

Then I plan to go balls out for WRs in the first 2-3 rounds this year.

Gonzo hasn't lost anything that is why he gets more coverage attention than any other TE in the NFL including Gates.

I agree 100%. He is a definite force to wreckon with for all defenses.

I'm just crossing my fingers that he busts out like the Gonzo from a few years ago. Seemed like nobody could cover him for a few years.

The average draft position of Tony G is towards the end of the 5th round, so getting him in basically the 7th round is a good deal.

For a seventh round pick, DO IT

Wait, how many keepers do you have though? If its like 6 that basically takes away your first pick and a shot at the very few players worth taking and the rooks like Bush, etc.

Edit - should have read the posts. with 5, I think its a pretty good deal. You need to work on that squad though. Get a RB early!

Hmmm, you think I should go for another good RB in the 1st round then?

I agree.

I think I am in pretty good shape for this year's draft, but plenty of room for improvement.

I sucked it up really good last season, to the point where I get to pick #2 in the first 6 rounds. My pick in the 7th round was actually 11th, so I feel even better about that.

As ZootedGranny stated, no way would Gonzo fall to the 7th round in most leagues... especially with 12 teams.

After plotting over my draft strategy,

Round 1: RB
Round 2: WR
Round 3: WR/RB (depends on who is available)
Round 4: WR/RB: (depends on who is available)

Most likely shoot for Gado or another RB who is up and coming.... possibly Addai, Lendale White, etc.

Rounds 5-6: QB (backup) and probably go for Defense at this time

I want to try to shoot for a Adam Vinatierri a little early, but still not sure when the right time for that move is. General consensus is that you wait until last to go for kickers, but I like to start panic and chaos in our drafts. Amazing how you can throw off other people's picks when you go for a kicker or Defense sooner than expected.

Your team is a team in need. You dont have the luxury of going after a top flight kicker, or the like IMHO.

Its always nice especially in a keeper to go for the young back with a huge upside, but again your not really in the position to do that. Get a solid RB that will help you produce now. (dont go too old though if possible)

I know this feeling, as I am/was (only 1 this season) in two diff Keeper leagues and inhereted a shitty team in both leagues.

I like your plan of RB first, then WR, RB/WR. You can always find WR's that do okay (as long as you do our homework) but RB is THE key position. (unless you are in a league that awards 6pts for passing TD's)

Let me know if you have any more questions. One last note. with that high of a pick, if there is a potential stud RB look into that. I have no way of knowing what your opponents rosters looks like, etc.
