Q for iTunes users

I have a few songs which are on multiple albums. Mostly overlapping collections or having GHs and the original album. Is there any way to associate 1 file with multiple albums in iTunes?

I don't know of any way to do that. I'd be interested if someone has a different answer.

I've got a semi-related question though. In my version of iTunes (6.0.0.8), I've noticed that artists whose songs I have on a "compilation" album don't show up in the "artists" column of the "browser" unless I also have songs from that artist on albums that are NOT compilations. In the latter case, I can filter by artist and get a list of all of the songs including the songs from the compilation albums. Obviously in the former case, I can't filter on the artist at all. Unless I'm missing something. Am I? Does the latest version of iTunes handle this differently?
