Unless they switched conferences lately, I think Arizona is still in the NFC.

Huard and Tynes Each Earn AFC Player of the Week Honors

The National Football League informed the Chiefs on Tuesday that QB Damon Huard has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and K Lawrence Tynes has earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for their performances against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday. This is the first time Huard has been chosen for the award and the second such honor for Tynes, who also claimed the honor after a 30-20 win at Miami (10/21/05). This marks the first time the Chiefs have had two AFC Player of the Week award winners in the same week since a 24-17 win over San Francisco (9/11/94) when QB Joe Montana and LB Derrick Thomas won Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Huard (6-3, 218) rallied the Chiefs from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit, as the Chiefs won their first road contest of the season with a 23-20 victory at Arizona. Filling in for an injured QB Trent Green, Huard completed a career-high 26 of 38 passes for a personal-best 288 yards with two TDs and zero INTs, good for an impressive passer rating of 108.2. He tossed TD passes of nine and 15 yards before completing a 78-yard pass to RB Larry Johnson that set up the game-winning field goal.

Huard owns a 7-2 record as a starter in his 10th season in the NFL after joining the Chiefs as a free agent in 2004. The University of Washington product has connected on 73 of 104 throws for 769 yards with five TDs for a 107.4 rating and has added five carries for 11 yards in 2006. His 107.4 passer rating and 71.2 completion percentage both rank second in the NFL. Only St. Louis QB Marc Bulger (169 attempts) owns more passes without an INT this season that Huard.

Tynes (6-1, 202) connected on all three of his field goal attempts last Sunday including a game-winning 19-yarder with 1:36 remaining in the contest to propel the Chiefs to a 23-20 victory at Arizona. Tynes accumulated 11 points in the game on field goals of 45, 40 and 19 yards and two extra points. The late-game heroics marked the second game-winning kick of Tynes’ career. He also booted the deciding 38-yard field goal with 22 seconds left in a 31-30 victory vs. Oakland (12/25/04). He now ranks fourth in Kansas City history with 52 career field goals.

On the season, the Troy State product has converted eight of nine field goals and eight PATs, ranking fourth among AFC kickers with 32 points. He also has one punt for 33 yards on the season. Tynes originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with Kansas City in 2001 and is now in his third season with the Chiefs after enjoying a two-year stint in the CFL with the Ottawa Renegades (2002-03).
