I Love And Hate Texas

Such a wonderful state. It makes me rich. But, on the other hand, what's with the arrogance? Seriously, do Texans really believe that their history and achievements warrant such arrogance? If so, what are they? It's hot. Unpleasant. Wild-growing cacti outside my hotel room? And, is that REALLY a live, long-horn steer in the field next to my room?

I understand being proud of your state, but I think that Texans take it beyond what is justified.

Am I wrong? If so, why?

When Colorado is its own nation for nine years, maybe we can say something about it. But until then, they've got bragging rights.

On a related topic, I went to a Vietnamese restaurant for lunch today, and it was a fast-foodish restaurant with cutesy names. They had two sizes of rice bowls - "Asian" for $5.95 and "Texan" for $6.95. I asked why the smaller portion was more expensive, and they said that Texan was the large size.

This makes no sense at all. Yeah, Texas is big for a state, but compared to Asia? All of Asia? We're talking 30 million people to 2 billion people. We're talking about comparing a big U.S. state against the largest land mass on earth by a long shot. I told them that they had their sizing wrong, but they just looked at me and asked if I wanted to order anything.

Yes. Yes, they are wonderful. I must restrain myself when I'm in Texas. Especially Austin.

My God.

One buddy of mine from Texas loves to make the (false) point that Texas is the only state with the right to break away from the union.

I told him go ahead, just take SoCal with ya, and lots of luck with the state economy when the Fed. Government pulls out and closes all the military bases.

On the other hand, an egomaniac like TO should feel right at home.

In Colorado, all of the road signs are shaped like the state, more or less. So are all of the boxes.

Dont Mess with Texas!

Seriously, they are just proud of their state and history. A little arrogant? Pehaps, but nothing wrong with being proud of where you came from.

Its funny, ive never met anyone from other parts of the country that said things like: "IM proud to be a Marylandite!" or " IM from the great state of Wyoming!"
