Gun pulled on Youth coach over playing time for his 6 year old son.
Parents of youth sports players....Please chill. It's just a game being played in the dirt and grass. Let's not get to far away from that concept.
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2636137 PHILADELPHIA -- A father pulled a gun on a youth football coach because his son wasn't getting enough playing time, police said. Wayne Derkotch, 40, was arguing with the coach Sunday during a game of 6- and 7-year-olds when he drew the weapon, police said. No shots were fired. Derkotch was charged with aggravated assault and other offenses. He did not immediately return a call to his home Monday. A referee accused of throwing a punch at a man was also arrested on assault charges, police said --------------------------------------------------------------------- Another just chill moment: Youth Coach Sentenced to Prison By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS A youth baseball coach accused of offering an 8-year-old money to bean an autistic teammate so he could not play was sentenced yesterday to one to six years in prison. Judge Ralph Warman of Fayette County Court sentenced 29-year-old Mark R. Downs Jr. of Dunbar, Pa., to consecutive 6-to-36-month sentences for corruption of minors and criminal solicitation to commit simple assault. A jury convicted Downs in September. His lawyer, Thomas Shaffer, said Downs would appeal the verdict. |

I would have done the same thing, it's just part of the game that the coaches have to deal with parents[/mecca]

There a plenty of ignorant coaches that deserve it.

I briefly thought about pulling a gun on Marty to make him play Greg Hill.

Guns don't kill people. Too much bench time does.

I helped coach my kid's 3rd/4th grade team this fall and had the glorious duty of managing playing times and making sure everyone got in the game.
Our kids play full contact.... no flag or anything like that, so it made it a little simpler. If I had anyone approach me about play times I explained that I wasn't putting a kid that didn't know what he was doing on the field. It will only get him or a team mate hurt. If they didn't know their job or played tentatively they shouldn't have expected to see much time because someone would come along and remove their head. If they didn't like that answer I referred them to any parent that had a kid playing last year to verify that I wasn't playing favorites. You could count the number of minutes my kid spent on the field on one hand last year because he wouldn't play at full speed. Thankfully I didn't have anyone still bitching or pulling guns on me after those two explanations. |

I was always the kid who got shafted for playing time. My parents didn't pull a gun, but I sure felt like doing that on some days

There's no place for that. Pulling guns out should be saved for other occasions, like when you get shorted at the McDonalds drive through.

I wanted to pull a gun on Herm when he pissed away a minute and three potential time outs at the end of the first half yesterday.
