My Take--Portis on the Move Again
The Redskins just gave Betts a 5 yr, 11 million dollar extension. He seems to be a durable back with a good skill set. I just don't see that as the kind of money that you'd invest in a backup RB. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Redskins trade Portis in the offseason.
I could see him going to the following teams: Denver: Bell can't carry the load, it's obvious. He's a change of pace/3rd down back. This is not good for us. The Goddamned Jets: They don't have a legitimate back to replace Martin, IMO. Washington and Houston both seem like backups. Portis would give them a franchise back and great option behind a young and rapidly improving solid line. Houston: This is dependent on how Davis returns from his injury. Dayne, Lundy, and Gado aren't the answer. Portis knows Kubiak from Denver, and he's familiar with their zone blocking scheme. A possible fit. They could also offer a high 2nd for him, which would be good trade fodder for Wash. Other teams that need backs: Oakland (no way, he'd refuse that trade, and who could blame him) Green Bay (if Green leaves, but I doubt Portis would want to go there either). I thought this might be interesting to discuss. Just thought about it as I was shaving. |

I'm real suprised Betts didn't wait, he could've probably gotten more money. He has kicked some ass the last few games. Reminds me of the good ole BSHS days!

i liked Betts last year and thought he fit Gibbs style better than portis.
Though i did read almost the exact same thing over on the Skins BB yesterday.

I'd echo some of the later posters in the link Mohillbilly provided. The cap hit would probably be prohibitive and regardless of what Betts brings he's not Portis.
Now when Portis becomes a FA he will likely leave but that's a different story.
