Hannibal Ri$ing?

They've been advertising the hell out of this starting today and I'm curious to see what the weekend box office take will be.I've also seen numerous discussions about it on a couple of movie boards I frequent.

Personally,I just finished reading the book a few days ago and am looking forward to seeing how it plays on the big screen as there are a couple of moments from Harris' novel that could be quite interesting.

Does anyone have plans to see it the first weekend if at all?

oh, I plan on seeing it--but outta curiosity (and I'm a fan of thomas harris'), is it a prequal to the whole 'hannibal' series?? does it go into the whole mischa thing and his memory palace? I only ask because, considering the end of Hannibal (the book) it was obvious he wouldn't write any more 'sequals.' after Hannibal (the movie), they ****ed it up so badly that even if he DID write more sequals, they wouldn't mesh AT ALL with the movie sequals.

thanks for the response--and yes, I'll be seeing it whenever I get the chance, as I'd rather watch it before reading it (as movies that **** with a book's plotline really pisses me off)

It's got a 20% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

Of course, Smokin Aces only got 27%, and everybody seems to like that.

No thanks.......it sort of ruins the mystery of Hannibal Lecter for me.

Nothing will top Silence of the Lambs or Manhunter.

Just FYI, Thomas Harris wrote the screenplay.

It's getting terrible reviews... one common theme is the guy playing Hannibal is not very good in the role.

Although, I will probably see it tomorrow. I've got the book, but the day I started reading it I saw a preview for the movie... so I decided to wait a couple of weeks. I'll start reading Sunday.

I always thought it was funny how they tried to make Hopkins seem younger than he was in Silence of the Lambs....

Even though he was clearly 50-60 pounds heavier and a few more wrinkles....LOL

I just finished reading Red Dragon (I have both encarnations on DVD but had never read any of the books). Excellent read; held my interest even though I knew what was coming. It's rare that I can read a book once I've seen the movie based on it.

And while they're both very good movies, I preferred Red Dragon over Manhunter. Fienes is a better Dolarhyde than Noonan, IMHO.

I actually did like the Hannibal movie. I thought Julianne Moore did a decent job with an older, more burn out Clarice..and it was enjoyably over the top in a Grand Guignol kind of way.

The thing I liked best about Hannibal (worst of the movies but still enjoyable) was that everybody he killed so completely deserved it.

Unless he's cornered or escaping, Lechter basically only kills annoying idiots and assholes. I really don't have a problem with that.

Yes,and without giving anything away I'd think there will be yet another book/movie to come called Hannibal Risen.
