Very good program. You get a house, but hey, you got to help and then you got to help other people get their dream. I was just the kid that they had painting the basement or something, but that's needed to. Now, I suppose I could help roof, if I did it again.

My church sends a group down to Jaurez, Mexico every year to do a project for Habitat for Humanity. I'd like to go this year if I can. I'm told it can be a life-changing time. That's cool that you did it.

I learned how to build scaffolding my last time at Habitat and it gave me a whole new appreciation for those structures. You have to conquer your fear if you're lifting heavy object on the 3rd story of some shaky scaffolding.

How did you get involved? Have a contact number? This is something that I would enjoy doing.

My wife and I did this about 5 years ago, and you are correct. It was one of the more rewarding days in my life.

I'd love to take a day off and do what I do every day for fun. Heh.
I'm a civic minded fellow, but I don't see myself doing the Habitat thing anytime soon. |

We had a guy that went with us who is a painter, and we were sure that the last thing he'd want to do on a day off was paint... poor guy ended up painting because he couldn't stand the others not doing it the "right" way. SO I assume anyone who actually does construction would have the same type of stress, and probably clash with the foreman. But like I said, those things were things I simply never learned to do... so learning what I learned, while doing what I was doing, was pretty meaningful to me. |

As for Habitat for Humanity....like anyone who has ever done it, you find yourself changed after the experience. It humbled me seeing the person who's house we were building, be thankful for something most of us take for granted....a safe place to live and call their own.
Congrats to you Sully....you may never see the depth of how you have completely changed one persons/families life, but you can feel the satisfaction of a job well done. mmaddog ******* |
