Is the College Basketball RPI system grandfathered all year?

i don't know exactly how to explain it but for example

Texas A&M beat KU a few weeks back when KU was ranked 10th or something. Now KU is ranked 3rd ..... does this raise A&M's RPI because they beat the 3rd ranked(now) team?

in turn, since A&M's ranking goes up because they beat the 3rd ranked team does it raise the ranking of everyone they have played all year?

so basically the higher KU,A&M and Texas move up the rankings the more value EVERY Big 12 game has had all year long.

make sense? does it work that way?

if so the RPI rankings could change exponentially towards the end of the season.

Except that for every boost in the RPI from a conference rival beating another conference rival is offset by the loss of the other team. Out of conference RPI is important though.

ya ... but much of the conference win/loss offset is overwhelmed if a team moves up the Poll rankings.

a game against a top 10 team means a lot.

if the big 12 had 3 teams in the top 10 it would make the leagues strength of schedule jump way up ... wouldn't it?

Providing that the bottom feeders can still play outside of the conference then yes it would help until the top ranked took a loss(i.e. conference tournament).
