***Official Royals Spring Training Thread***

COUNTDOWN TO OPENING DAY: 29 DAYS
ROYALS DAY IN CAMP
The Kansas City Star
“I don’t think I have reason to be concerned at not doing well in my first outing. The main thing is I got my work in, and I feel good.”
Royals starter Odalis Perez after allowing four runs and five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

RANGERS 8, ROYALS 5

GAME SUMMARY

Neither Odalis Perez nor Todd Wellemeyer succeeded Saturday in lasting his scheduled three innings in an 8-5 loss to the Texas Rangers at Surprise Stadium.

Perez exited after allowing four runs and five hits in a forgettable 1 1/3 innings. Wellemeyer worked two scoreless innings before giving up three runs in the sixth without recording an out.

The Royals finished with 13 hits, including homers by Mark Teahen and John Buck.

WHO’S HOT/ WHO’S NOT

Outfielder Joey Gathright was both. He was thrown out easily after getting a bad jump in attempting to steal second base in the first inning. But he tied the game at 4-4 with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.

Outfield prospect Billy Butler continues to cement his great-hit, no-field reputation. He had a double and a single in three at-bats but misplayed a fly ball in left field that turned a single into a double.

Andres Blanco had three hits in four at-bats.

REGULAR GUYS

Teahen also made a nice running catch in right field . Angel Berroa stranded runners in scoring position in his first two at-bats before getting a two-out single in the sixth with nobody on base.

SICK BAY

Reliever Ryan Braun was pulled from his scheduled appearance after experiencing migraine headaches. Shortstop Angel Sanchez is increasing his workout after being limited by a sore elbow.

Relievers Joe Nelson and Joel Peralta each expressed satisfaction after throwing bullpen workouts for the first time in more than a week.

NOTABLES

•The season opener April 2 against Boston is officially a sellout after a brisk first day of single-game sales. “This is the best first day of sales for the Royals in over 15 years,” ticket director Lance Buckley said.

•Gil Meche will make his next start Wednesday in a “B” game against Texas. That enables him to avoid a matchup against division-rival Chicago — and a trip to Tucson, Ariz.

ON DECK

Zack Greinke makes his spring debut today in a planned three-inning performance in relief of starter Luke Hudson when the Royals conclude a three-game weekend series against campus co-tenant Texas. Octavio Dotel, John Bale, Jason Standridge and Neal Musser are also scheduled to pitch.

• Royals (RHP Luke Hudson) vs. Rangers (RHP Brandon McCarthy) at 2:05 p.m. in Surprise, Ariz.

I'm in Phoenix on business in a week. I'm hoping to catch a Royal's practice or hopefully a game. I'm pumped about this year.

I hope you don't have any important job in the AF.

I had to work yesterday as did another friend of mine... So; we asked another friend to get up early and get us some seats... The turd head didn't get up til almost 10am, and then was only able to get us STANDING ROOM ONLY !!!!!

He's a cheap turd, so I imagine he took the least expensive route... First time in 30 years I'm not in a seat on opening day !!!

I've been to every opening day since I was 12.... Skipping school was awesome back then...

After standing in a "virtual waiting room" forever, then being allowed in, told the server was busy, starting over again in the "waiting room", told there were no 2 seats together, searching again, I got 1 ticket in the lower infield row AA. I need 2 at least however. I prob try to sell it on ebay to help pay for the 2 nosebleeds I'm going to have to buy on ebay.

I'm thinking the same thing... I'd give up those damn SRO tickets for a seat...

BTW, Grudz will have surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. German will open the season as the 2B.

Perez is horrible. One of the best days for the Dodgers last season was getting rid of that lop.
