What do you think? Gordon comes off a tad snooty at the beginning and the end of the story. Otherwise, what about his points? I throw it out for debate.

That's about what I expected from St. Louis. Can't say I disagree with the sentiment because, if the shoe was on the other foot, we would be doing the same.

I certainly wouldn't act like this if the shoe was on the other foot.

There's so many things in here, I don't have time to enumerate, so in summary all I can say is:

What an *******...

Whitlock does the same, so can't blame him.

As far as his points, they also have the same legitimacy as Whitlocks points usually do.
It's simple: Green should cost the Chiefs a No. 1 pick and a No. 3 pick.
It's not quite that simple. He may want those picks, but I don't see why Trent Green is worth that price on the market.

They can keep their offensive juggernaut clicking along with Green sitting on the bench taking up the cap room. But why should we be charitable and help them build their defense so they can stop losing the division and playoff games to a team missing their starting QB, RB, and WR?

Screw St Louis...

Sound and fury signifying absolutely nothing...

He knows as well as we do that the 1.375 million trading Green would free up would bring in some much-needed help for their defense. Not to mention the benefit of possibly getting the #12 pick, be it through a straight trade or a swap.

That sounded to me exactly like a baby throwing a tantrum because he didn't get the toy he wanted for Christmas. It's a shame hacks like that are paid money for the sort of things that you and I do every day on this board, and a hell of a lot better than that...

What a joke.

Chicagoans refer to St. Louisians as Chicago Lite (Tastes ****ty, and it's less filling). The fine people of St. Louis have this horrific affinity and paranoia for what is happening in Chicago. People in Chicago would never even recognize anything from St. Louis until the Cards-Cubs game.

The article made me laugh at the stupidity of it's condescending tone. If you look real close, his arrogance in the article is actually paranoia in reverse.

My question is, when did Darryl Hammond become a sportswriter?

I lived in St. Louis for over six years and loved every minute of it. But that kind of condescension has not been deserved. The Blues choke more than the girls on the set of a John Holmes movie. Mark McGwire is a great story, but he is about it for the Cards in the '90's, unless you count the 'supernatural choking' of Ankiel. They don't even have the class to admit that Kurt Warner's '99 season was a once in a milleneum story and without it, they'd still be mired in mediocrity a the TWA??????? Dome.

Whether or not Grbac stays retired, is another question. There are so few good quarterbacks out there that some team may have some injury problems and figure Grbac can help.
And he just might. But ultimately, he will flee again. It's his profile. Elvis will definitely leave the building.

St. Louis doesn't look down on Kansas City. No sir, we LIKE our little sister city to the West. That's why our Rams didn't really mind beloved former coach Dick Vermeil coming out of retirement to coach the Kansas City Chiefs.

And that's why St. Louis is willing to send one of her own sons, Trent Green, down Interstate 70 to quarterback the Chiefs. Life in the NFL is very difficult without a proven quarterback, and the Rams happen to have two.

So, helpful folks that we are, we're willing to share. There's no sense in letting our friends suffer. The Chiefs can have Green as long as they pay the going rate for such proven starting quarterbacks: a first- and third-round pick.

I mean, the Rams aren't going to just GIVE Green to the Chiefs. Knowing that proud organization as we do, we know the Chiefs don't want a handout. They don't need charity. They've always been one of the better organizations in the game. Chiefs czar Carl Peterson is as brilliant as they come.

The Chiefs can pay their freight. Let's not treat them like panhandlers. To give Green to the Chiefs for a token price out of sympathy . . . well, now, that makes no sense. Let's not insult those people.

If Kansas City prefers to go another direction at quarterback, fine. They can pick up what's left of Troy Aikman after 10 concussions or what's left of 36-year-old Steve Beuerlein after a career of beatings. Gus Frerotte might have been a passable option, but he elected to stay in Denver and bid for the Super Bowl as a back-up.

They can go get Baltimore's championship tag team of Trent Dilfer and Tony Banks. Steve Bono is still alive, isn't he? Or Steve Walsh? I mean, there are so many other attractive options, one couldn't blame the Chiefs for clinging to their draft picks and eschewing the chance to get Green.

Sure, Green knows the new Chiefs offense in and out. He's an upbeat leader, offering the sort of positive presence that this franchise could use after a rough 2000 season.

But, hey, if the Chiefs don't want him, fine. Green provides reassuring depth on this team, which is obviously a quarterback-driven squad. Now that the cap savings of ditching Green is down to $1.3 million _ or about $900,000 after the Rams replace him with another veteran No. 3 guy _ the benefit of moving him has been greatly reduced.

The Chiefs seem to be making the Rams' decision for them. Now that the cap value of swapping Green is evaporating, any offer from Kansas City has to be that much better.

It's simple: Green should cost the Chiefs a No. 1 pick and a No. 3 pick. If they want to push off the No. 3 pick until 2002, we suppose that's OK. Again, we're nice people here in St. Louis. We don't mind helping out our neighbors in the prairies of East Kansas.

If the Chiefs don't want to pay the price, then we hope they enjoy their quarterback adventure while the Rams are clicking along with two veterans at the wheel of this juggernaut.

Having two great quarterbacks is a luxury in this league, but the Rams can cope with such luxury if the Chiefs swat away this helping hand. It's no skin off our nose. Green would be the NFL's best reliever. Maybe the Rams could send Warner and his family on a midseason vacation to make certain Green gets some work.

We tried to be help Kansas City on this matter, so our conscience is clear
